2nd Largest California County Will Automatically Send All Registered Voters A Mail Ballot For Newsom Recall

On September 14, every active registered voter in California will get a mail ballot for Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recall election.

San Diego County said on Thursday that ballots would be sent out on Aug. 16, allowing voters approximately a month to mark their choices and return them by mail for free, with no postage.

Residents may also return their ballots at specified drop-off sites around the county on election day, or at their voting station.

Former baseball player Aubrey Huff shared his take on the announcement of mailing in ballots.

“Due to new “delta variant” California will be mailing in ballots for recall election. You can’t make this sh*t up. Setting it up for @GavinNewsom to stay in power. If you can’t see how obvious the corruption & lies are then you’re truly lost,” Huff wrote in a post online.

For four days, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in-person polling stations will be available across the county. Saturday, September 11th, through Monday, September 13th. The hours will then shift on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., providing anybody who had not yet voted a broader window of opportunity.

Whether you’re not sure if you’re ready to vote, the county has outlined several actions people may do to be ready according to County News Center:

  • Check your voter registration information. Make sure your residence and, if different, your mailing address is up to date.
  • Have you moved or changed your name? Whether you are new to San Diego County or just moved down the street you need to re-register to vote.
  • Are you a first-time voter? If you want to participate in the upcoming election, you must be registered to vote – it takes less than 2 minutes.

Because enough people signed petitions in support of conducting the special election, a recall election is being held to remove Governor Gavin Newsom from office.

The voters will be given two questions: first, should Newsom be removed from office? and second, should Newsom be re-elected? The second question will be to select from a list of alternative candidates.

If Newsom’s recall is approved by a majority of voters, the candidate with the most votes becomes governor. The recall will fail if a majority of voters vote “no” on the first issue, and Newsom will stay in office.
