Amazon Driver Attacks 67-Year-Old Woman After Saying To Check ‘White Privilege’

In Castro Valley, California, an Amazon delivery driver was arrested for allegedly punching a 67-year-old lady over a package issue.

According to KTVU, deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office arrested Itzel Ramirez, 21, on Thursday after receiving a 911 call from the victim. Ramirez allegedly hit the victim at least ten times in the face and head, according to the victim.

KRON4 reporter Maureen Kelly captured the event on security camera and shared it with the public.

The confrontation began after the victim got an alert that her package had been delivered, according to Doug Smith, the owner of Vista Creek Apartments, where the confrontation occurred. When the victim arrived in the lobby, however, the package was not there.

She apparently told the victim she’d have her package soon after asking Ramirez where it was. The victim then went back outside after waiting 15 minutes in the lobby.

“I believe the Amazon driver said something about ‘your White privilege,’ and my tenant said, ‘You don’t need to be a bitch about it,’ turned around and walked away,” Smith told KVTU.

The victim is “too shaken up” Smith said KRON-TV, to speak to the media about what occurred.

Ramirez is no longer employed by Amazon, according to a spokeswoman for the company, who also said that the event “does not reflect the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages.”

According to KVTU, Ramirez says she was acting in self-defense after being arrested on suspicion of battery causing severe bodily harm and elder abuse, both felonies. The bail amount for her has been set at $100,000.
