As Americans Are Dying In Afghanistan, AOC Is Busy Giving Doomsday Climate Change Rants

In a House Oversight and Reform Committee meeting, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was seen giving a doomsday prophecy in which she claimed that fossil fuels are the costliest form of energy.

“Oil is anything but cheap,” AOC claimed. “It is the most costly fuel source that we have with the ultimate cost being our planet in our future. So let’s dispense with the myth that gas and oil and fossil fuels are cheap. They are the most costly thing that we do.

On August 26, Ocasio-Cortez and other politicians from across Queens will be rallying in Astoria Park to obstruct a brand-new NRG power plant for the district. NRG hopes to replace a 50-year-old Astoria Generating Station with a natural gas-fired plant.

Sunny Side Post reports AOC and her allies say that NRG will be using fracked natural gas to power the plant. Critics are pushing them to switch to 100 percent renewable energy, a move that will hike the price.

Senator Chuck Schumer and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio are joining AOC to obstruct the plant.

“With new leadership in the state, this is our chance to show there is strong public opposition and demand a renewable energy option for our city,” AOC’s staff wrote to supporters in an email. “We can’t afford to waste the moment.”

An NRG spokesperson said that the plant’s upgrades are in line with a state law that mandates carbon emissions reductions over the next few decades.

“NRG’s plan to upgrade its Astoria plant with state-of-the-art technology is fully consistent with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act as it will immediately result in significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and supports the expansion of renewable energy resources throughout the state,” the spokesperson said.

NRG’s plan is to bring more than 500 jobs to the city and lower electricity costs by $1.5 billion in its first five years of operation.
