As Recall Election Nears, California Sec. of State Creates ‘Print-Your-Own Ballot’ Program

The California Secretary of State website contains information on a print-your-own-ballot program created ostensibly to help disabled Americans vote.

The program, Remote Accessible Vote by Mail (RAVBM), was apparently created for the 2020 elections. The RAVBM allows voters to vote using their own compatible technology to vote independently and privately at home.

I’m sure California’s “print your own ballot” program is SUUUPER secure!” Tomi Lahren wrote to Twitter.

What is Remote Accessible Vote-by-Mail (RAVBM)?

“RAVBM systems will allow voters with disabilities, many of whom often rely on others to assist them in reading and marking their ballot, to cast their vote privately and independently from home. This IS NOT internet voting,” according to Disability Rights Ca.org

It is currently unknown how many RAVBM ballots were cast during the 2020 Election.

A PDF containing a frequently-asked-questions portion asked the following, “How secure are RAVBM systems?”

The answer provided in the PDF was, “California has one of the most strenuous testing and certification programs in the country to ensure that your private and independent ballot is secure.” It did not elaborate further on how this was true.

The document also asserts that the RAVNM program is not “internet voting.”

“Remote Accessible Vote-by-Mail (RAVBM) systems will allow voters with disabilities, many of whom often rely on others to assist them in reading and marking their ballot to cast their vote privately and independently from home. This IS NOT internet voting.”

The PDF does not mention how many copies of the ballots are allowed to be printed or how limits would be enforced.
