Black Congressman Exposes Bigotry Coming From Democrat Party

Rep. Burgess Owens spoke during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on voting right on Capitol Hill on Tuesday and reflected on his experience growing up under Jim Crow laws in the South and slammed Biden that he should know better.

Owens condemned the left for their attempts to criticize Georgia’s election law that requires people who want an absentee ballot, need to show a government-issued ID.

The Georgia law SB 202 was signed by GOP Gov. Brian Kemp last month which requires, posted by Fox News:

  • It expands access to early voting statewide by requiring two mandatory Saturdays and allowing local election officials the option of up to two Sundays during early voting. This change would apply to all 159 counties in Georgia for the first time and result in hundreds of hours of increased early voting opportunities across the state.
  • SB 202 requires all voters to provide a driver’s license or a free state ID card number to request and submit an absentee ballot. This would replace the cumbersome signature match process, thereby significantly streamlining – and securing – absentee ballot verification and tabulation. Every Georgia voter must already present some form of photo ID to vote in-person.
  • For the first time ballot drop boxes – which were not available to Georgia voters prior to the COVID-19 pandemic – are mandated in every county, while also ensuring all drop boxes are secured around the clock.
  • SB 202 protects polling locations from electioneering by private individuals. Within 150 feet of the precinct, election officials may provide water at stations. Beyond 150 feet, as previous Georgia law allowed, private individuals may campaign and provide food and water for voters.
  • It also requires local election officials to continue tabulating votes until counting is complete and mandates the use of security paper to ensure complete authentication of ballots.

“97% of Georgia voters already have a government-issued I.D. What I find extremely offensive is a narrative from the Left that black people are not smart enough, not educated enough, not desires enough education to do what every other culture and race does in this country. Get an ID. True racism is this – It’s the projection of the Democratic Party on my proud race. It’s called the soft bigotry of low expectations,” the Utah representative stated.

President Biden one said in response to getting vaccinated, “A lot of people don’t know how to register [for the vaccine]. Not everybody in the community, in the Hispanic and the African-American community, particularly in rural areas that are distant and or inner city districts, know how to use – know how to get online.”

“President Biden said in light of the Georgia law, this is Jim Crow on steroids. With all due respect, Mr. President, you know better. It’s disgusting and offensive to compare the actual voter suppression and violence of that era that we grew up in with a state law that only asked the people show their ID. This is a type of fear-mongering I expect in the 1960s, not today,” Rep. Owens stated.

Literacy tests and poll tests were initiated by the Democratic Party

Rep. Owens called out the Democratic Party, “The intimidation of black Americans by the KKK was initiated by the Democratic Party. Jim Crow that I grew up in in the south of segregation was initiated by the Democratic Party. The soft bigotry of low expectations now projecting on black Americans, not Italians, not Asians, not Polish, not Jewish, but only black Americans is being done by the Democratic Party.”

“Where black misery today thrives and is prevalent lack of education, lack of jobs, high crimes, the call for defund the police is all done in Democratic parties. By increasing illegal votes and not giving voice to those legal Americans, black Americans who are seeing and waking up today is the real tragedy of this process. We’re seeing 18 percent of black men turn away from the Democratic Party because they’re seeing that their vote can count and the future can matter,” Rep. Owens continued.

We’re seeing twice the percentage of black women doing the same. Record number of Hispanics, Asians and gay community members doing the same. So, no, all Americans express, very simply expect is fairness, security, to walk away from the toll booth, knowing that my count, my vote counted. If we didn’t win, we work harder next time to make sure my message, our message resonates. But the call [Georgia law] Jim Crow 2021 is an insult, my friends. For those who never lived in Jim Crow, we are not in Jim Crow. And for black Americans go out every single day and vote the way we feel we should is a right we should have and not being demeaned by something 60 years ago in which we had no right to do any of the above. Thank you very much,” Rep. Owens concluded.
