BREAKING: U.S. Forces Sabotage Potential Bombing Near Kabul Airport

The ongoing evacuation efforts of US forces in Afghanistan was shaken by another explosion near the Hamid Karzai International Airport — but this time, American officials said it carried out a drone strike against a vehicle threatening Kabul’s main international airport.

The explosion reportedly came hours after US authorities warned of the likelihood of an assault.

Various reports from the ground soon came in noting that the strike was carried out by the US to take down terrorists threatening the Kabul airport once again, where evacuations are still ongoing ahead of the August 31 deadline to pull out US forces out of Afghanistan.

“US drone destroys car rigged with explosives in Kabul driving to airport to attack US forces,” Lucas Tomlinson, who covers the Pentagon for Fox News, tweeted.

Another journalist, Jennifer Griffin said: “BREAKING: US military carried out an airstrike against a suspected VBIED- vehicle borne IED that it says posed a threat to Kabul airport.”

Local media firm, ToloNews broke the incident online announcing “an explosion has been reported in #Kabul city,” early Sunday.

It added that “eyewitnesses and footage on social media indicates a rocket has hit a house in the Khawja Bughra area near #Kabul airport.”

Other mainstream media in the US also went to follow the report.

#UPDATE A loud blast was heard in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday by AFP journalists, hours after US officials warned of the possibility of a terror attack,” AFP tweeted.

US carried out drone strike

After gathering more data, the outlet said the blast was caused by a drone strike conducted by the US to take down ISIS operatives that have “specific” airport threat — after Thursday’s explosion that killed 13 US servicemen and at least 90 Afghans.

#BREAKING US carried out air strike in Kabul on vehicle linked to Islamic State: military official,” it said.

#UPDATE: The United States carried out a drone strike against a vehicle threatening the Kabul airport that had been linked to the regional Islamic State chapter, an American military official said Sunday,” AFP added.

The blast was later confirmed by a local police commander, according to the Associated Press, who added that the rocket hit an area northwest of Kabul international airport amid the ongoing US evacuation.

BBC said separately that according to a source at the Afghan Ministry of Health, the strike happened near the airport, while witnesses cited by Reuters said a house to the north of the Hamid Karzai International Airport effectively under Taliban control — was hit.

Other reports revealed that the US hit a suspected ISIS-K suicide bomber who posed “imminent” threats to American evacuation efforts at Kabul’s main airport.
