Buyer’s Remorse? A Look Back At Republican National Security Officials Who Supported Biden

During the 2020 Presidential Election cycle, a group of 500 National Security leaders combined their support for Joe Biden. An open letter reveals a group of Republicans who thought that Biden would make a more effective leader.

Amid Biden’s mishandling of the Afghanistan crisis, the ones who expressed their support for a Democrat have been proven to be completely wrong.

The letter, which includes the list, reads, “We are former national security officials who served during the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and/or Donald Trump, or as Republican Members of Congress. We are profoundly concerned about the course of our nation under the leadership of Donald Trump. Through his actions and his rhetoric, Trump has demonstrated that he lacks the character and competence to lead this nation and has engaged in corrupt behavior that renders him unfit to serve as President.”

“The next president will inherit a nation — and a world — in turmoil,” the letter states. “The current President has demonstrated he is not equal to the enormous responsibilities of his office; he cannot rise to meet challenges large or small. Thanks to his disdainful attitude and his failures, our allies no longer trust or respect us, and our enemies no longer fear us.”

Among those who flipped to supporting the Democrat candidate include Adm. Steve Abbot (Bush Admin), Adm. Kenneth Bernard (Bush Admin), and Amb. John Negroponte (Bush & Obama Admin).

The open letter against Trump’s reelection appeared after a group of 235 retired military officers expressed their support for his reelection.

“It can be argued that this is the most important election since our country was founded,” the open letter from the retired officers said. “With the Democratic Party welcoming to socialists and Marxists, our historic way of life is at stake.”

“We believe that President Donald Trump is committed to a strong America,” the letter continued. “As president, he will continue to secure our borders, defeat our adversaries, and restore law and order domestically.”

Fast forward to today, Joe Biden has been relatively quiet about what’s occurring in Afghanistan, with small announcements that don’t include follow-up questions.

45th President Trump issued a blistering statement against Biden on Thursday in response to the mass killings of Americans and their allies overseas.

“Melania and I send our deepest condolences to the families of our brilliant and brave Service Members whose duty to the U.S.A. meant so much to them. Our thoughts are also with the families of the innocent civilians who died today in the savage Kabul attack,” Trump said in a statement.

“This tragedy should never have been allowed to happen, which makes our grief even deeper and more difficult to understand,” the 45th president added. “May God Bless the U.S.A.”
