Candace Owens Is Taking Legal Action After Being Denied Covid Test For Political Views

Conservative author and commentator, Candace Owens is currently feuding with a testing facility in Aspen, Colorado after denying her a Covid-19 test  over her political views.

Owens — who is also a host at The Daily Wire — has been sharing the developments on her social media and most recently said she is escalating the matter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“UPDATE. It turns out the facility that rejected my ability to take a Covid test receives both state and federal funding,” Owens said on Thursday evening. “So no — she had NO RIGHT to deny me a Covid test when my taxes go toward her operations.”

“This situation is currently being escalated to the HHS,” she added. “Stay tuned!”

Owens was denied medical care in the form of the Covid-19 test by Aspen Laboratories, a Colorado laboratory, whose owners Suzanna Lee and business partner Isaac Flanagan denied receiving any taxpayer funding.

On Wednesday, the conservative author and commentator shared the email from co-founder Suzanna Lee informing her that her Covid-19 test “booking” was being cancelled and that she would be “denied service” due to her stance on mask mandates and vaccination.

“Holy crap!! I just received an email from a Covid testing facility that they are REFUSING to administer a test to me because they don’t like my politics,” Owens wrote on Twitter on September 1. “INSANE. I’m banned from making sure I don’t accidentally spread Covid? Going live with the email on Instagram in 10 mins!”

“And yes — for the ‘she must be lying’ crowd, I will be plastering the email on Twitter and Instagram thereafter for the world to see.”

“The public Health crisis is SO REAL, that they are now banning individuals from COMPLYING with rules to ensure they don’t spread COVID,” she added.

On a succeeding tweet, Owens posted the proof of the interaction with Lee of the Aspen Laboratories.

“Here is the email from the rabid activist declining to give me a test, plus my response to her,” Owens said. “She clearly isn’t stable enough to work in health and is a danger to the Aspen community.”

The email from the Covid-19 testing facility dated August 31 read: “We cannot support anyone who has pro-actively worked to make this pandemic worse by spreading misinformation, politicizing and DISCOURAGING the wearing of masks and actively dissuading people from receiving life-saving vaccinations.”

“My team and myself have worked overtime, to exhaustion, unpaid and underpaid this past year, spending our own capital to ensure that our community remains protected,” the co-founder, Suzanna Lee added in the email. “It would be unfair to them and to the sacrifices we have all made this year to serve you.”

In her fiery response, the African-American conservative host wrote: “I wanted to let you know that this might objectively be the most hilarious email I have ever received in my life. Truly, I’ve never laughed harder.”

“Nothing screams ‘this virus isn’t political’ quite like Googling the names of the people who book tests with you and determining on a case-by-case basis whether or not you will let them comply with your community Covid measures,” Owens retorted.

“Nothing screams ‘I love my local community’ quite like refusing to test people who are going to a local event and wish to ensure they are negative and therefore do not spread the virus.”

“That nobody stopped you from hitting ‘send’ on such an emotionally unstable and hysterical email leads me to believe that the people who work for you must love me, and therefore never deny me this entertainment,” Owens added.

Closing her email, the conservative author and commentator said: “It’s hard to pick just one, but I think the best part of your virtue-signaling rant is the arrogant assumption that you’re the only person who can administer a Covid test from here to Texas,” Owens said, before adding an “LOL.”

“Just finished my live on Instagram here: https://instagram.com/tv/CTTTQcSJqQe/?utm_medium=copy_link…

“As promised— here is the email from the rabid activist declining to give me a test, plus my response to her. She clearly isn’t stable enough to work in health and is a danger to the Aspen community,” she added.

Lee maintains stance against Owens

Meanwhile, Aspen Laboratories’ co-founder Suzanna Lee told local media outlet, Aspen Times, that she stands by her decision to deny the political commentator a Covid-19 test — claiming that Owens is putting her staff at risk.

“We stand behind our staff and we’re not sending them to someone’s hotel room when they don’t feel safe,”  Lee said

To this, Owens snapped back saying she was not staying at a hotel in Aspen contrary to Lee’s claim.

“Suzanna Lee is crazy,” Owens said. “She is sick in the head.”

Separately, Flanagan — the laboratory’s other co-owner — told Aspen Times that the facility would have tested Owens had she shown “symptoms” or was “a potential risk to the community.”

Flanagan reportedly said that the facility cancelled Owens Covid-19 test booking because her situation is a “non-emergency scenario for someone working proactively to undermine the realities of this devastating pandemic.”

Ironically, some left-wing Covid-alarmists applauded Owens’ denial of a Covid-19 test, which might have allowed the conservative commentator to infect or spread the virus unknowingly.

The Daily Wire said Owens had a doctor test her to ensure everyone’s safety, and the results were negative.

MSNBC host Joy Reid publicly cheered Lee for denying Owens the test, posting to Twitter: “Good evening to Suzanna and Suzanna only.”

Meanwhile, other personalities who don’t share Owens’ politics pointed out that it’s still unacceptable to deny someone such medical care because of political beliefs.

“Denying someone medical service due to their political beliefs is not a path we should want to go down,” pollster Frank Luntz said on Twitter.

Social media users also backed Owens, prompting her to trend on Twitter on Thursday.

Owens also appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show Thursday.

In his introduction of Owens, Carlson noted that it has not been unusual for Americans of a different political affiliation to be “singled out, punished and denied services” – but that what happened to Owens is one of the first such cases of an American citizen “being denied medical treatment on that basis.”

“This doesn’t sound like America,” Carlson added.
