Chicago Armed Robbery Suspect Turned In To Police By His Own Mother
As Chicago’s crime rate continues to rise, one mother was determined that her kid would not be a part of the problem and get away with it. On his way to school last Tuesday, a student at Loyola Chicago brandished a revolver at a Metra Electric train conductor and grabbed all of the conductor’s money. Police posted images of the suspect, 18-year-old Zion Brown, after the event, which caught the attention of someone who knows Brown well: his mother.
Brown pulled out a “black semiautomatic handgun and announced a robbery,” according to CBS Chicago. He “ran off into the station, according to Metra police. Authorities released two photos, one of them showing the man with the gun in hand on the station platform.”
Brown was able to get away with the money and the pistol, which was subsequently proven to be a BB gun. While he made it out of the station with the stolen money, he couldn’t get away from everyone.
Brown’s mother, according to various stories, saw images of her son in the media and identified him despite the fact that he was wearing a mask. She confronted her son after that and took him to the police station.
Brown was charged with robbery later and admitted to the act. Brown, according to his defense counsel, was simply hungry and wanted money to eat. According to CBS Chicago:
The defense attorney said Brown went to class at Loyola after the hold-up. He encouraged Judge Maryam Ahmad to reflect on her days as a hungry college student as she weighed the state’s request to have Brown held without bail.
That argument didn’t sit well with Ahmad, who said she remembered being a hungry college student, but she never considered pulling a gun on someone and taking their money. She granted the state’s no-bail request.
