Customer Shot At Burger King Employee Accused Of Using Racial Slur Towards Postmates Worker
Surveillance video has given new insights on a disagreement that escalated into a shooting around an Arizona Burger King in March.
According to an arrest warrant, the suspected shooter, Dakota Kern, was in a vehicle with three other passengers when the driver attempted to pick up a Postmates order at the drive-thru.
According to footage acquired by FOX 10 Phoenix, confusion about the order led Kern and the other passengers to park the vehicle and enter the Burger King.
Kern reportedly began grabbing objects and throwing them at the workers inside the restaurant after accusing them of saying a racist slur.
Kern and the others eventually exited the Burger King, and one employee stepped outside with a camera phone to photograph the car’s license plate.
Kern is accused of grabbing a 9mm handgun and trying to chase down one of the victims, firing numerous shots at the employee.
One of the bullets passed through the back windshield of a passing vehicle and came to a stop in the driver’s seat headrest, straight for the driver’s head. An empty car in a parking lot was also hit by a stray bullet.
Kern was arrested in April on three counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and five other charges and was on probation for burglary at the time of the shooting.
Officers said she informed them she “saw a black object” in the employee’s hand that she mistook for a weapon.
“When [Kern] was confronted with the fact that she continued chasing and shooting at the victim as he ran away, she admitted to this and admitted it was not reasonable to continue shooting,” the arrest report states.
During the event, no one was harmed by gunshot, although one of the workers had stomach abrasions.
