Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock Reportedly Under Investigation For Voter Registration Misconduct
Socialist Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock of Georgia is reportedly under investigation amid charges that a group he was part of engaged in allegations of voter registration misconduct in his home state.
The report came as the Georgia State Election Board — which organizes and oversees all election-related activities in the state — voted unanimously to proceed with the investigation into claims that the New Georgia Project founded by progressive Democrat Stacey Abrams, and where Senator Warnoff was listed CEO, failed to follow election-related deadlines.
“Warnock, a Democrat elected last month to the US Senate, is named as a respondent in the case because he was listed as the CEO for the New Georgia Project at the time,” The Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) said in a report.
“Representatives of the New Georgia Project hand-delivered 1,268 voter registration applications to the Gwinnett County elections office beyond the time allowed.”
It added that the “state election rules require voter registration organizations to submit completed applications within 10 days after they were received from the voter.”
Forged signatures, incomplete forms
The report said the State Election Board — whose chairman is Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — submitted the case on a 3-0 vote with David Worley, the only Democrat in the group, recusing himself from voting.
“In a prior case alleging contractors for the New Georgia Project forged signatures and submitted incomplete forms, the attorney general’s office hasn’t brought charges in the 3½ years since it was referred by the State Election Board. That case remains open,” AJC further said.
In November last year, the Georgia Secretary of State launched an investigation into various organizations in the state — including The New Georgia Project — for “repeatedly and aggressively” seeking to register “ineligible, out-of-state, or deceased voters” ahead of the January 5 Senate runoff where Warnock run against Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
“I have issued clear warnings several times to groups and individuals working to undermine the integrity of elections in Georgia through false and fraudulent registrations,” Secretary Raffensperger said at that time.
“We have received specific evidence that these groups have solicited voter registrations from ineligible individuals who have passed away or live out of state. I will investigate these claims thoroughly and take action against anyone attempting to undermine our elections.”
Meanwhile, Attorney General Chris Carr will now reportedly look into the case against the New Georgia Project and would decide later on whether to press charges or imposed fines against the now Georgia senator and the New Georgia Project where he used to be part of.
Warnock stepped down as chairman of the embattled organization on January 28 this year.
Following its report, the New Georgia Project clarified that its corporate filings with the state misidentified Warnock as its CEO when his actual position was board chairman.
