Dems Demand Boebert Be Stripped Of Committees For ‘Jihad’ Remark; McCarthy Responds, Blasting Omar, AOC, Dems
Multiple dozens of Democrats in the House are pushing for Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) to have her committee assignments taken away following comments she made about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), which she recently apologized for.
“In a letter released Wednesday, five House Democratic caucus chairs — Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Joyce Beatty, Judy Chu, David Cicilline, and Raul Ruiz — led the call for Boebert to face ‘consequences’ for her anti-Muslim rhetoric,” Business Insider reported.
The letter reads:
“Today, we are calling for Representative Boebert to be removed from her committee assignments. We stand with Representative Omar and millions of Muslims across the country who deserve better and are looking to their elected leadership to condemn islamophobia at the highest levels of government.”
The report adds, “Separately, 38 members of the House also issued a statement Thursday calling for Boebert to be removed from her committees”.
During an event in Colorado, Boebert “described an encounter with Omar in the halls of Congress as ‘not my first ‘Jihad Squad’ moment.’” Footage of this line went viral on Twitter.
Over the Thanksgiving break, Lauren Boebert said she was recently in a Capitol elevator with Ilhan Omar when a fretful Capitol police officer ran up.
Lauren Boebert said: “Well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine.”

Boebert tweeted out a public apology, saying, “I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly. There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”

When Boebert finally got ahold of Omar, she allegedly hung up on Boebert.
Omar, speaking with 9News said this: “I believe in engaging with those we disagree with respectfully, but not when that disagreement is rooted in outright bigotry and hate. To date, the Republican Party leadership has done nothing to condemn and hold their own members accountable for repeated instances of anti-Muslim hate and harassment. This is not about one hateful statement or one politician; it is about a party that has mainstreamed bigotry and hatred.”
Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) slammed Omar and other Leftists in her squad, saying:
“Let me be very clear, this party is for anyone and everyone who craves freedom and supports religious liberty. Lauren Boebert, as I called her, when it came forward we talked, she apologized publicly, she apologized personally. Did any of you raise the question when someone on their side of the aisle said I worked with the Ku Klux Klan, referring to Republicans? Did anyone on your side of the aisle talk about when Omar said the only reason I support Israel is all about the Benjamins?”
