Florida Man With Coronavirus Says Hydroxychloroquine Drug Touted By Trump Saved His Life

In the midst of the Chinese COVID-19 pandemic, there seems to be plenty of bad news as the mainstream media exacerbates every anti-Trump angle they can find — instead of, you know, identifying the real culprits of the virus.

Even in a tragedy, there’s some good news, however, and the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, suggested by President Trump as a possible treatment for coronavirus, now has at least one instance of proven success.

Florida Spring Breakers Return To College, Test Positive For COVID-19

Florida man Rio Giardinieri, aged 52, has told Los Angeles’ FOX 11 news that the anti-malaria drug saved him from COVID-19’s death sentence.

Giardinieri may have contracted Chinese coronavirus during a business trip to New York, where (in case you haven’t heard) the editorial board of the sensationalist New York Times is having to shelter from the 20,000 people who have contracted the virus.

Giardinieri claimed to have all the symptoms of COVID-19: intense coughing, fatigue, and headaches. While his age bracket isn’t at the highest risk for mortality, Giardinieri was nevertheless at risk of death due to the swamping of coronavirus patients in today’s hospitals. After a week in the intensive care unit, Giardinieri was told there was nothing further that doctors could do, and he was left to die in an eerie premonition of how medicine will look if Bernie Sanders balloons the national health bureaucracy.

Luckily, Giardinieri had a friend who suggested hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug that some studies have anecdotally shown to treat COVID-19 symptoms. While Trump has ordered the FDA to fast-track studies for hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus treatment, it has yet to gain final approval.

Giardinieri, who quite literally had nothing to lose, took the medication. At first, he thought he had a heart attack, but after stabilization, he said he felt like “nothing ever happened.” Since taking the drug, the Florida Man has not had any further symptoms of COVID-19, has no fever, and is able to breathe freely. “To me, there was no doubt in mind that I wouldn’t make it until morning,” he told the media. “So to me, the drug saved my life.”

Hydroxychloroquine is part of the quinine family of medications derived from tree bark. These drugs were first made famous in the age of the British Empire, when researchers discovered that it killed malaria parasites (quinine can be found in tonic water, which is why gin and tonic was promoted as the national drink of Britain). It works by preventing inflammation, a key advantage against COVID ravaging the lung cells.

Tump’s endorsement of hydroxychloroquine has, unfortunately, led to national shortages. It remains to be seen whether liberals who were insistent that Trump is #NotMyPresident will refrain from taking his advice once they too find themselves short of breath. Given how few of them want to turn down his universal payments, I doubt you’ll find too many who say hydroxychloroquine is #NotMyDrug.
