Former VP Pence Undergoes Routine Surgery For Pacemaker

Former Vice President Mike Pence reportedly underwent a routine surgery to implant a pacemaker “after experiencing a slow heart rate.”

His office told the press on Thursday, while noting that the former VP of Donald Trump is expected to make a “full recovery.”

Pence underwent a successful procedure to implant the device on Wednesday at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Virginia.

According to reports, the 61-year-old former vice president had previously been diagnosed with a heart condition called asymptomatic left bundle branch block.

“Mike Pence had a pacemaker implanted yesterday,” his office says in a statement. “The routine surgery was successful, and he is expected to fully recover and return to normal activity in the coming days.”

Pence underwent the surgery after experiencing symptoms associated with an abnormal heart rate “over a two-week” period.

“My family has been truly blessed by the work of these dedicated healthcare professionals,” Pence was quoted in the statement.

Meanwhile, the former VP first disclosed his asymptomatic heart blockage condition after becoming the Republican Party’s nominee for vice president in 2016.

Pence has made few public appearances since leaving the White House earlier this year choosing to keep a low profile.

However, he launched launched a political advocacy group“Advancing American Freedom” earlier this month with the aim to “promote and defend the policy achievements of the Trump administration” while combating the growing influence of the “radical left.”

The launch of this advocacy group was largely seen as a “step” in his bid to play a more vocal role in the Republican Party and policy debates in Washington.

“Advancing American Freedom plans to build on the success of the last four years by promoting traditional conservative values and promoting the successful policies of the Trump administration,” Pence said.

“Conservatives will not stand idly by as the radical left and the new administration attempt to threaten America’s standing as the greatest nation in the world with their destructive policies,” he added.

The former Indiana governor — who was also a member of the US House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013 — is often considered as a strong contender for the GOP’s presidential nomination in 2024, although he has yet to make any statement on his political plans.
