Georgia GOP Censures Secretary Of State Brad Raffensperger For ‘Dereliction Of His Constitutional Duty’

The Georgia Republican Party has censured Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Saturday for “dereliction of his constitutional duty.”

At the state GOP Convention, Governor Brian Kemp was also reportedly booed — still over fraud concerns related to the 2020 election where former President Donald Trump — lost to Democrat Joe Biden — in the historically red state.

Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) tweeted the details of the censure of Raffensperger.

“Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger failed to perform his duties in accordance with the laws and Constitution of the state of Georgia, and Republican Party values,” the resolution read.

It noted that Raffensperger has “neglected” such duties by “entering into the Compromise Settlement Agreement and Release, which changed Georgia’s absentee voting procedures outside the Constitutionally prescribed format set forth in Georgia law; and for undermining the security of our elections by allowing mass mailings of absentee applications by his office and third parties which created opportunities for fraud and overwhelmed election offices.

Georgia Republicans also charged the Secretary of State for “rendering accurate signature matching nearly impossible; and allowing ballot drop boxes without proper chain of custody; and ignoring sworn affidavits and evidence of voter fraud.”

“The fecklessness and failures of Secretary Raffensperger were enabled by the actions and inactions by others such as Lt. Governor Duncan, who denied that there was election fraud and punished Georgia Republican State Senators who asked for election audits,” the resolution said.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Georgia Republican Party Convention censures Secretary Raffensperger for dereliction of his Constitutional duty; and calls on Governor Kemp and all elected officials to repair the damage that has been done and commit themselves to securing Georgia’s elections,” it added.

“Here’s a version of the resolution that just passed at the GOP convention  that ‘censured’ Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for ‘dereliction of his Constitutional duty’ and calls on @GovKemp to ‘repair the damage that has been done.’ #gapol” Atlanta Journal Political Reporter Greg Bluestein said.

Reports noted that Raffensperger, a Republican who has announced he is running for re-election, did not attend the state GOP Convention.

Governor Kemp, who has also made public his intent to seek re-election, attended but his appearance was initially met with loud boos as he gave a speech, according to WSBTV.

Former President Trump has earlier made clear his intentions to target Raffensperger and Kemp’s re-election for their part in ratifying Biden’s victory in the state despite persisting fraud allegations.

The former Republican president also voiced his regret for backing Kemp in 2018 and said he is “ashamed” to have endorsed the incumbent Georgia governor as he vowed to campaign against him in 2022.

In March, former President Trump also endorsed Rep. Jody Hice in his attempt to unseat Raffensperger.

 Raffensperger camp responds

Meanwhile, in response to the censure Raffensperger’s office stated: “The Secretary of State’s Office, county election directors and the tens of thousands of poll workers across the state worked to ensure that democracy was upheld.”

“It is the job of counties to run elections and the secretary of state’s office’s job to report those election results – it is the job of the political parties to deliver wins for their candidates. Let’s not confuse the two,” it added.

Trump Senior Advisor Jason Miller posted on his social media how Kemp was booed at the convention.

“Brian Kemp Booed at the Georgia GOP Convention,” he wrote.

The 40th Police Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, Bernard B. Kerik, also responded to the news saying: “The Georgia GOP Convention did not forget that @GovKemp ignored the fraud in Fulton County, and allowed the @GaSecofState to certify the election knowing it was wrong. Joe Biden sits in the White House today because of Kemp’s failure to do his job.”

Despite the tension with Trump, Kemp said he’d “absolutely” back the former President as 2024 nominee.
