Gov. Greg Abbott Reveals Who Will Assist The Department Of Public Safety In Arresting Illegal Immigrants

On Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas National Guard to apprehend immigrants found crossing the state’s southern border illegally from Mexico.

In a letter to Major General Tracy R. Norris, Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard, Abbott detailed his command, ordering the guard to help the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in the apprehension of illegal immigrants.

“Beginning on May 31, 2021, I have issued multiple proclamations certifying under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code that the surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border poses an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster for certain counties and agencies in the State of Texas. To respond to this disaster and secure the rule of law at our Southern border, more manpower is needed — in addition to the troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and soldiers from the Texas National Guard I have already deployed there — and DPS needs help in arresting those who are violating state law,” Abbott wrote.

“By virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, I hereby order that the Texas National Guard assist DPS in enforcing Texas law by arresting lawbreakers at the border,” he ordered.

While Abbott tries to crackdown down on illegal immigration into the United States, President Joe Biden is struggling to keep a wave of illegal immigrants from Mexico from entering the nation. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Biden administration had released approximately 50,000 illegal immigrants into the United States’ interior without setting a court date to hear their asylum applications.

According to a report from Axios, about 50,000 migrants who were caught crossing the US-Mexico border illegally have been released into the US with no court dates and just directions to return to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office, reported earlier by The Scoop:

“Only 13% of them had been followed up with by an ICE official, according to the outlet.”

“According to The New York Times, the startling revelation comes as reports suggest that July may be yet another record-breaking month for illegal immigration along the southern border, similar to June, that saw the highest number of illegal immigrant apprehensions at the US southern border in years. According to Customs and Border Protection, certain parts of the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, one of the most heavily traveled sectors of the border, experience upwards of 20,000 apprehensions each week (CBP).”

“It’s unprecedented for agents to release migrants without an official notice to appear in court. Where it has occurred recently, migrants have instead been given a list of addresses and contacts for ICE offices across the country and told to report to one of them. The hope has been for migrants to show up at these offices after reaching their final destination, to get work permits,” Axios noted.
