Haitian Migrants Take Over And Escape From Bus That Was Being Used To Detain And Transport Them In Texas

DEl RIO, Texas — According to two law enforcement officials, Haitian migrants who were being taken away from the border on a private bus hired by the federal government rebelled during the trip and seized control of the commercial vehicle before fleeing.

During the two-and-a-half-hour drive from the international bridge in Del Rio to San Antonio, Texas, a big white bus heading for the city was overtaken on Monday afternoon. According to two federal law enforcement officials who spoke to the Washington Examiner, the migrants on board were picked up from a makeshift migrant camp where hundreds of people are awaiting deportation.

On Tuesday, a senior federal law enforcement officer confirmed to the Washington Examiner that “They did break out of the bus, and they did escape,”

Whether the transfer was being overseen by Customs and Border Protection or Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not known at this time. CBP is in charge of the initial apprehending, transporting, and processing of illegal immigrants, while ICE is in charge of longer-term custody and deportation from the United States. Requests for comment were not returned from any agency.

ICE, on the other hand, informed a local news source that “several noncitizens attempted to flee the contracted bus.”

In their statements, the two individuals who verified the event claimed that law enforcement looked for and apprehended the escapees.
