The White House has launched an online tool for reporting social media censorship.
The online portal, which is called the ‘Tech Bias Story Sharing Tool,’ allows users to report if they feel they have been unfairly banned or censored by a social media platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, or others.
On the front page of the portal is a message from the White House:
SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear ‘violations’ of user policies. No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump.
The creation of this online portal is the first official step taken by the White House to address the issue of politically motivated social media censorship that millions of conservative Americans believe is taking place.
President Trump has tweeted many times over the past year about social media censorship, but up until the creation of this portal, no action had taken place by the White House.
Earlier this month, Facebook banned several conservative commentators, such as Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson, and Laura Loomer. Facebook also banned Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam.
The permanent ban applies to Instagram as well, which is owned by Facebook.
In an official statement, Facebook said those individuals were banned because they violated Facebook’s policy against “dangerous individuals.”
The news of Jones and others being banned by Facebook angered President Trump, who tweeted out that he would be ‘monitoring’ social media censorship.
The White House launched its online portal less than two weeks after President Trump tweeted that he would be ‘monitoring’ social media censorship.
The White House’s online portal asks users to upload pictures of the content that caused the user to be either banned, suspended, or censored.
The portal also asks the user to select which social media platform the alleged unfair banning, suspension, or censorship took place on.
The White House has not stated whether or not it will use the data collected by the portal to take executive action or push for legislation.
