Idaho Governor Bans Transgender Athletes From Women’s Sports

The “Fairness for Women in Sports Act” has been signed into law by Republican Governor Brad Little of Idaho.

According to the new law, only biological women can participate in women’s sports.  Transgender women, who are biologically male, cannot compete against biological women.  This rule will be applied to any sports team that is sponsored by a university, college or public school.

Kristen Waggoner, senior VP of the US Legal Division for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), believes that this is the best decision that can be made.  The playing field is now level.   Allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports destroys any sense of fair competition, according to Waggoner.  ADF has served as the legal representative for young biological female athletes as they look to preserve the integrity of single-sex sporting events.

Governor
Brad Little has been widely commended for signing this act into law. Without
laws that specifically consider the biological differences between men and
women, innocent young female athletes are left in harm’s way.  In the state of Connecticut, these biological
differences have already caused several issues.

Two biological males in the Connecticut high school system began competing in women’s sports once their transition was complete.  Their ensuing domination led to the shattering of several long-time female track records, and they also won several championships.

The obvious physical advantages that biological males have over women cannot be ignored. Logically, that’s why different leagues for men’s sports and women’s sports originated in the first place.

Biological
reality cannot be ignored simply because government officials are afraid of offending
the feelings of less than 0.6% of the U.S. population.  Women are deprived of the opportunity to
compete when biological males are allowed to participate.   Plain and simple.

ADF was responsible for representing Chelsea Mitchell, a Connecticut student-athlete who decided to challenge the state policy.

She’s happy that Idaho women will not have to
experience the same challenges that she went through.  Mitchell lost four state championships as a
result of Connecticut’s policy to allow transgenders in women’s sports.  While Mitchell was the fastest female in her
races, she did not have the chance to take home the highest honors because of
the biological men who were much faster than her.

Many female athletes just
like Mitchell have been severely hurt by these anti-science policies.

The American Civil
Liberties Union has condemned the new Idaho law.  They are promising to file a lawsuit and believe
that Governor Little has prioritized the wrong issues during a global pandemic.

Even if the ACLU and various LGBT activists are displeased, it is easy for anyone with an ounce of common sense to see that this law is essential to protect women’s rights.

Female student-athletes deserve to be able to compete on a level
playing field, just like men do.  By
allowing biological males to compete alongside biological females, schools are
creating an environment that is harmful to the development of female athletes.

The Fairness for Women in Sports Act is a no brainer and more states should be following Idaho’s lead in this regard.
