James Bond Might Become Non-Binary In The Future, Producer Says

James Bond’s future appears to be heading in a direction that will be controversial for Bond fans.

In an interview with the “Girls On Film” podcast, producer Barbara Broccoli discussed what’s next for the renowned spy, and her words are sure to get people talking about her.

After the host of the podcast, Anna Smith asked whether the role will always remain male, Broccoli responded, “I do because I don’t think that we should be making films where women are playing men.”

She did, however, leave the door open for the character to switch pronouns at any time.

Upon being asked if Bond would become non-binary in the future, Broccoli replied, “Who knows? I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor. ” She also mentioned that Bond may use the pronoun “they.” For those who are unfamiliar with the term “non-binary,” it simply implies that Bond’s gender would be variable and that he would fit under the LGBTQ umbrella.

Smith speculated, ‘Non-binary, perhaps, maybe one day?’ Brocolli responded, “Who knows? I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor.”

In addition, Broccoli, who controls the 007 franchise through her Eon production company, suggested the next Bond may not be white, saying, “We want the actor to be British… and British, as we know, can be many things.”

Rumored names in the running for the next Bond role are Idris Elba, Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page, Mad Max star Tom Hardy and Bodyguard actor Richard Madden.

The following statement was made last night by the Hollywood producer: “Bond has to adapt to the times but a non-binary 007 might be hard for fans to accept.”
