Report: Kamala Harris Becomes Most Unpopular Vice President Since The 1970s, According To Polls

Vice President Kamala Harris is the most unpopular vice president since the 1970s according to recent polls, despite being on the job for just six months.

As of July 27, The Los Angeles Times said on Monday that “5% of registered voters had a favorable opinion of Harris and 48% had an unfavorable opinion — a net rating of -3 percentage points, according to a Times average.”

Separately, a recent YouGov tracking poll revealed that the Democratic vice president’s unfavorability rating reached 49%, with a lower favorability rating at 45%.

The Telegraph noted that VP Harris’ unpopularity is “worse” than that of former Republican Vice President Mike Pence’ six months results.

Around this time into his tenure as vice president to former President Donald Trump, Pence had an unfavorability rating of 41.9% — lower than Harris’ by 7.1 percentage — while his favorability rating was at 42.1%.

The report noted that  “Pence may have been helped by a massive media focus on then-President Trump and false accusations that he was a Russian agent who colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.”

Focus on Harris under Biden’s admin

Under the administration of President Joe Biden, Harris — the country’s first Black, female vice president — has received a lot of attention. President Biden, has also tasked her with a number of high-profile tasks, including leading the efforts in handling the immigration crisis at the southern border as well as rallying for voter rights.

The Times noted that “Harris’ approval ratings started to decline after she was assigned the task, though Biden also received a small decline in job approval.”

The outlet added that the “dip followed an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, where Harris bristled at a question about why she had not visited the border, triggering criticism.”

“Comments about immigration and the United States’ southern border during visits to Mexico and Guatemala have also sparked controversy,” it added.

That time, Holt asked the Democratic vice president if she had “any plans” to visit the border — after already receiving backlash for not visiting the border since being appointed by Biden into the role last March 25. Harris finally visited the border on June 25.

Harris odd reply to border visit question

In that interview Harris seemed dismissive of calls to visit the border, saying she hadn’t been to Europe yet either.

“At some point, you know, we are going to the border, we’ve been to the border,” Harris said. “So this whole, this whole, this whole thing about the border. We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”

Holt then pressed her saying: “You haven’t been to the border.” To which, Harris made an odd reply saying: “And I haven’t been to Europe.”

Following this exchange, Harris traveled to Mexico and Guatemala, where she went on to make controversial remarks that continued to raised eyebrows. The foreign press in Guatemala questioned why she had not visited the US-Mexico border and Harris stated that while the immigration problem is a top concern, she wouldn’t visit the border.

“On the issue of Republican’s political attacks, or criticism, or even concerns, the reason I’m here in Guatemala as my first trip as vice president of the United States, is because this is one of our highest priorities,” Harris said that time.

“I came here to be here on the ground, to speak with the leader of this nation, around what we can do in a way that is significant, is tangible, and has real results. And I will continue to be focused on that kind of work as opposed to grand gestures,” she added.

Later, when quizzed again by the Spanish media when she specifically plans to visit the US-Mexico border, an irritated Harris replied that as she has said, she’s “going to the border.” When asked again “when” she would do that, Harris responded: “I’m not finished. I’ve said I’m going to the border.”

Harris has also been earlier reported to have ‘traumatized ’ her staffers — who were reportedly “terrified” that she will be president one day.

The Democratic VP’s unpopularity also extends to the party itself where even a few Biden administration officials, are apparently worried that she couldn’t defeat a Republican in 2024 if she were to run for president — even if her opponent is former President Donald Trump.
