Larry Elder Is Running For Governor, Blasts ‘Arrogant’ And ‘Out-Of-Touch’ Gavin Newsom

American libertarian radio host Larry Elder announced on Tuesday that he is entering the California recall election for Governor against incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom.

Elder made the announcement as he slammed the Democratic governor for being “out-of-touch” and for his draconian restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. He noted that unlike other states, California is also having a much-difficult time bouncing back from the wide-ranging impact of the pandemic.

“I have an announcement to make,” Elder said on his “The Larry Elder Show” Tuesday.

“Months ago I was approached to run for governor by Dennis Prager because people asked him to ask me, they know how much I respect Dennis and how influential Dennis has been in my life, in my career.”

“And I said ‘Dennis thank you for that but hell no!’” Elder added, echoing his previous statement that the “[California] is ungovernable.”

“The Democrats enjoy supermajorities in the Senate, supermajorities in the Assembly, so Republicans even need not show up for work and they can do whatever damn thing they want,” Elder continued.

Nonetheless, he noted that after long discussions with other individuals who encouraged him to throw his hat into the race — including Pastor Jack Hibbs and filmmaker Lionel Chetwynd — the conservative radio host said he has finally made the decision as he referenced Newsom’s “egregious” behavior, including trips to the posh French Laundry restaurant at the height of the pandemic and his kids continuing to enjoy their private “in-school education” while public schools remain shut mostly until the fall

“We still have no idea how many bankruptcies there are, because the bankruptcy courts are just now opening up,” Elder said.

He continued: “I know that two-thirds of jobs have been restored in other states outside of California on average, and California is just half.”

In an appearance at “Fox and Friends” on Wednesday, Elder ramped up his criticism of Newsom — citing the increasing homelessness in the state and the deteriorating public schools system in California. He also called out Newsom for his hypocrisy when he broke his own Covid-19 restrictions.

“Gavin Newsom has been smug in mandating all these coronavirus restrictions — the most severe restrictions in the whole country — while he violated them,” Elder said.

“Kids lost a whole year of education, crime is going up, homelessness is going up, the cost of living is insane, for the first time in the state’s history more people have left California than have come,” the radio host added.

“Something has got to happen — we need to recall this guy,” Elder went on. “75% of Black kids in California cannot read at state-level proficiency. 50% of all kids in California in public schools cannot read at state-level proficiency — yet the teacher’s union is [Newsom’s] biggest contributor and they hate, hate, hate school choice.”

Elder, on the other hand, said he supports “school choice.”

On his campaign website, Elder noted that he is “running for Governor because the decline of California isn’t the fault of its people.”

“Our government is what’s ruining the Golden State,” Elder said. “Our schools are closed to both students and their parents. Our streets aren’t safe from rising violent crime or the disaster of rising homelessness. And the scandals of Sacramento aren’t going to stop on their own. It’s time to tell the truth. We’ve got a state to save.”

Elder to Newsom: “arrogant out-of-touch governor”

“Californians know we can do better. The problem is Gavin Newsom, our arrogant out-of-touch governor, has got to go. And I hope that I will be the person you choose to be his successor,” Elder concluded. “Don’t feel bad for him. He can always retreat to his winery, you know, the one that remained open during the pandemic. The man has got to go!”

“Let’s do this together because we have a state to save,” Elder added.

Newsom is facing a recall from voters who are angry over his over the top policies during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The California Governor also came under fire earlier for violating his own coronavirus restrictions when he was caught attending a friend’s birthday at one of California’s most exclusive restaurants.

In late June, the California Secretary of State announced that the recall campaign had surpassed the legal threshold of 1.5 million signatures on a petition asking for Newsom’s removal with more than 1.7 million signatures submitted to the petition.

California is set to hold its recall election on September 14 — with at least 26 Republicans and 16 Democrats running.

Republicans running include Caitlyn Jenner, former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, businessman John Cox and Assembly member Kevin Kiley.

Meanwhile, candidates have until Friday, July 16 to jump into the race.
