Los Angeles Firefighter Allegedly Pulled Down His Pants And Wiped His Butt With A Vaccine Mandate Order

The Los Angeles Fire Department is investigating an incident in which a fireman “responded inappropriately” after being given a letter ordering him to comply with the city’s vaccination mandate, a department spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

According to the Stentorians of Los Angeles City, a group that represents African American firefighters, the LAFD member responded to receiving the non-compliance letter by dropping his pants and wiping his behind with the letter, leaving feces on the document, before dropping it to the ground.

This alleged event serves as a reminder of the strong opposition some within the Fire Department have to the city’s requirement that all firefighters get vaccinated.

According to LAFD spokesperson Cheryl Getuiza, the reported event happened on November 18. In a statement, she declined to elaborate, saying only that the department was “aware of the seriousness of the allegations and took immediate action upon learning of this incident.”

Getuiza indicated that the fireman is on paid administrative leave and that he “will face the consequences of any inappropriate acts.” She did not go into detail about what motivated LAFD to put the firefighter on leave.

The event was witnessed by an LAFD captain and a chief officer, according to the Stentorians, who released a statement to the Board of Fire Commissioners and city officials. According to the organization, it took place at Fire Station 69 in Pacific Palisades.

It was said in a statement by the Stentorians that “the LA City Stentorians are sickened and disgusted by this horrific display of unprofessionalism…to date, we have not heard from anyone from the LAFD administration condemning this act of blatant disrespect and harassment.”

The angered group called out the mayor, City Council, and fire commission, pushing them “To date, we have not heard from anyone from the LAFD administration condemning this act of blatant disrespect and harassment.”

The Stentorians referred to the act as a “terminable” offense.   A photograph of a guy carrying what looked to be a discolored paper was attached alongside their statement.

An anonymous individual who answered a phone number connected with the man in the photo confirmed to The New York Times on Friday that the individual was not available for comment. When the reporter called back again, the person on the other end informed him that he had dialed the incorrect number.

On Friday, the photo received by the Stentorians on Wednesday was also disseminated throughout the Fire Department.

As of Friday, Getuiza said the department is “aware of an incident where a member responded inappropriately to a hand-delivered letter to comply.”

“No matter how our members react, all city employees must abide by the city ordinance — either file for an exemption, get vaccinated, or face termination,” Getuiza added.

Getuiza stated on Monday that the event had been recorded in a complaint tracking system and that the department’s Professional Standards Division was conducting an investigation.

Mayor Eric Garcetti’s spokesman, Harrison Wollman, declined to comment on the alleged

When asked on Wednesday to offer commentary on the Stentorians’ statement, Wollman said the “mayor’s expectation is that fire department leadership will handle this matter definitively, and make it clear that these appalling actions will not deter enforcement of rules that we’ve put in place to save lives.”

Jimmie Woods-Gray, the president of the Fire Commission said on Wednesday, “I am beyond appalled at such an act by an LAFD firefighter. Strong corrective action is necessary.”

As part of the city’s new vaccine mandate, the city has issued notifications to employees who have not complied yet with the rule. Workers who have not yet been vaccinated or applied for exemptions are required to sign notifications instructing them to submit proof of vaccination by December 18.

Employees who refuse to sign the papers would be removed from the job and their pay will be suspended while they await “proposed separation”, according to a memo sent out to city departments by Garcetti.

Some members of the Fire Department have been angrily expressing their displeasure with the vaccine obligation for months.

Earlier this year, a newly formed group called Firefighters 4 Freedom filed a lawsuit against the city over the vaccination regulations, and a firefighter’s YouTube video protesting the mandate went viral in August.

At the same time, several staff groups are calling for the removal of LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas, claiming the agency is failing to combat harassment and bullying, particularly towards female firefighters.

According to a recent poll, the vast majority of firefighters have little faith in their superiors, and many in the department are dissatisfied with what they perceive to be irregularities in the way top brass punish sworn members of the department.
