Marjorie Taylor Greene Accuses Cori Bush of ‘Racism’ Over July 4 Tweet

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed Missouri lawmaker Cori Bush as “racist” over the July 4 weekend, after the Democratic congresswoman tweeted that Black Americans “still aren’t free.”

As the country celebrated its 245th Independence Day on Sunday, Bush fired criticism of the festivities on social media.

“When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they’re referring to is for white people. This land is stolen land and Black people still aren’t free,” the Democratic lawmaker wrote on Twitter.

A prominent backer of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, Greene added: “We know what our own freedom looks like. End the slavery permitted under the 13th amendment.”

“End the War on Drugs. End police violence. End health care, housing, and education apartheid. WE are the experts on our own liberation. And we won’t stop until it’s won.”

Greene, a prominent Republican then fired back at Bush’s tweet about Independence Day and wrote: “Says a black woman, who is one of only 435 people in all of America currently elected to serve in Congress.”

“You can stop with the racism now Cori and put your race card back in your pocket. The 4th of July is freedom for all from a tyrannical government. Happy Independence Day!” the Georgia lawmaker added.

Other Democrats shared Bush’ sentiment.

Congressional candidate Shahid Buttar wrote: “Speak it, @CoriBush! It’s almost as if our entire country has been brainwashed to ignore our history — and how its worst elements continue today — despite our self-congratulatory rhetoric.”

Others also cited how slavery was still legal in the US when the country celebrated Independence Day on July 4, 1776.

Top Democrat Representative Maxine Waters (California), who heads the powerful House Financial Services Committee chair commented: “July 4th… & so, the Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal. Equal to what? What men? Only white men?”

“Isn’t it something that they wrote this in 1776 when African Americans were enslaved? They weren’t thinking about us then, but we’re thinking about us now!” Waters added.

Former MSNBC Touré tweeted: “F**k Independence Day. Not only were we not free, the whole reason the Colonies wanted independence was because Britain was moving toward abolishing slavery.”

“Why would Black people celebrate a day so wrapped up in our enslavement?” he added, further saying that July 4 “wasn’t Independence Day for Black people.”

‘America wanted to protect its cash cow and, even more, it was wealth derived from slavery that allowed the colonies to afford to pay for the War of Independence,” Touré went on. “The founding of this country is intertwined with slavery. Why would we celebrate that?”

Social media users slam Bush over tweet

Meanwhile, social media users blasted Bush over her criticism of Independence Day celebration — many, pointing out how blood was shed and sacrificed for the freedom of the country.

“You are a sad excuse for a sitting elected official. This land was conquered and tamed by individuals of all colors and you dishonor them. You are free, free to live in any other country you wish, traitor,” wrote retired 32-year USAF combat veteran Rob Maness.

If White supremacy was really running the show, you wouldn’t be allowed to post this— much less as a Congresswoman!” commented former Trump official Kyle Hooten.

“There are plenty of black Americans who have taken advantage of Freedom to succeed: Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, Clarence Thomas, to name a few,” said Kyle Becker, former Fox News writer and CEO of BeckerNews.

How is there ‘systematic racism’ when we had a black president, VP, SCOTUS justice? Because of hard work & opportunity. Stop lying.

“Singlehandedly, @CoriBush has dishonored every Black person who ever fought for this nation, sprinkled a little Marxism into the mix, and lied about the history of America,” Buzz Patterson wrote.

Another Twitter user, who is a retired US Army wrote: “@CoriBush your Independence day is wrong. You live in a very diverse country where anyone can be anything they desire to be. You are an example of that but you still fuel the flames of division why?”

“Yet you’re an African American government elected official making a hefty salary. Take your Marxism out of this country and stop contributing to the destruction of patriotism in the United States of America,” another one commented.

“Communists must take anything that can unify us, and turn into something that divides us,” wrote Fox News senior editor Will Ricciardella. “And they’re winning.”

“You’re one of the most powerful people on the planet. The blood of so many of every color was spilled to provide you that opportunity. How sad to not recognize their sacrifice and, instead, promote racial division,” commented another.
