A New Zealand music festival was evacuated over a “right-wing” tattoo.

Around 6,000 concert-goers were evacuated from the ‘Homegrown Music Festival. Police ordered the evacuation because they were concerned about an individual who had a tattoo that police believed was linked to a far-right ideology.

However, police later admitted that the tattoo was not a right-wing symbol.

A spokeswoman for Homegrown said the incident was an “innocent misunderstanding.”

Some of the Homegrown crew identified a person that they were concerned about and police made the call that person needed to be found…Police couldn’t spot the person immediately so they made the call to evacuate the stage.  The person was found and it turned out that is was a completely innocent misunderstanding and everyone was allowed to return.

The festival took place just 8 days after the Christchurch, New Zealand mosque shootings.

It is unknown what the design of the alleged tattoo actually was.
