Nancy Pelosi Stuffs Coronavirus Relief Bill With Tax Credits For Windmills And Other Far-Left Policies

Senator Ben Sasse (R-Neb) blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali) for hijacking negotiations in the Senate over a phase-three economic relief package with, what he called, an “ideologically driven wish list” that have no relation to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sasse said in a Monday night speech on the Senate floor: “Instead of taking that legislation — urgent, necessary legislation — and passing it quickly, Democrats have now decided to allow Speaker Pelosi to block it through proxies here in the Senate so that she can rewrite the bill with a ton of crap that has absolutely nothing to do with the public health emergency that we face at this moment.”

Pelosi’s bill ballooned to 1,404 pages upon her return to Washington after a week’s absence. Democrat House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) told caucus members Pelosi’s bill is “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

Calling Democrats add-ons to the bills “a ton of crap that has absolutely nothing to do with the public health emergency that we face at this moment,” Sasse led the way for other Republicans to decry what has become what some or comparing to the omnibus Affordable Health Care Act Democrats spent two years getting to former President Obama’s desk.

James S. Robbins, an opinion columnist for USA Today, writes that the newly-introduced House version of the “Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act” is nothing more than Democrats trying to hijack coronavirus stimulus for a “Christmas in March for liberal special interests. ”

Robbins writes, “These phonebook-sized (if I can use an anachronism) emergency acts are too long and detailed for any legislator to read and fully comprehend, but you can bet they are stuffed with gimmicks, giveaways, sweetheart deals and ill-advised policies with no bearing on the crisis itself.”

According to Robbins, Pelosi’s COVID-19 relief bill “imposes racial and gender pay equity provisions, diversity on corporate boards, increased use of minority-owned banks by federal offices, and a grab-bag of other diversity-themed requirements. It increases the collective bargaining power for unions and cancels all the debt owed by the U.S. Postal Service to the U.S. Treasury. For the global warming crowd there are increased fuel emission standards and required carbon offsets for airlines, plus tax credits for alternative energy programs. For the kids there is a provision for student loan payment deferment, and for the education bureaucrats who overcharge them a $9.5 billion giveaway to colleges and universities. It gives $100 million to juvenile justice programs, and suspends various aspects of enforcement of immigration laws.”

An angry Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pointedly told Pelosi to quit stalling with “political games” saying, “It’s time to get with the program, time to pass historic relief … This is a national emergency.”

Only the politically ignorant (which unfortunately is millions of Americans) would not be able to see that this is an attempt by Democrats to prevent President Trump from having a “9/11 moment” in which “Americans put aside partisanship for a moment to rally around a leader trying his best to help the country cope.”

Robbins, who served as a special assistant in the office of the secretary of Defense in the George W. Bush administration, sees House Democrats’ actions as either a blatant attempt to “humiliate or hamstring” President Trump.

He writes, “Playing political games as many people watch their jobs vanish, their businesses collapse and their life savings evaporate while they sit in quarantine, and as others sicken and die … is simply bad for everyone.”
