Non-Binary Biological Male Counselors Allowed To Sleep In 10 Year Old Girls’ Cabins At California Science Camp

After learning that non-binary biological male counselors were permitted to share cabins with fifth-grade-aged girls at a school-organized science camp in San Bernardino County, parents at Weaver Elementary School in Los Alamitos, California, were outraged at the school district, according to KTLA.

The parents claim that their daughters told them that certain biological male counselors at Camp Pali who use the pronouns “they/them” spent three nights on the school trip sleeping in cabins with the female students, local media reported.

Speaking with KTLA, parent Suzy Jonhson said, “No parent should feel the way I feel after knowing what could have happened to my daughter.”

Another mom, Rachel Sandoval, claimed she phoned the school and asked if they would confirm biological males were sleeping in the girls’ cabins. School officials “were not able to confirm that.”

The Camp Pali assistant director said in a statement, “Per California law, we place staff in cabins they identify with.” Parents claim they were uninformed about the camp policy.

A spokesperson for the school district informed KTLA that the administration takes all complaints seriously and that an investigation into the event is already underway.

Parents expressed their hope that others will be made aware of the camp’s housing policy so that they can make educated decisions on behalf of their own children.

Johnson said, “It’s awful that children had to even experience this in fifth-grade camp. If I was aware of it and I had initialed something saying this was going to be done at this outdoor science camp, I would have kept my children home.”
