NRA Responds To Joe Biden’s Threat To “Defeat” The NRA, Claims Biden Wants To “Dismantle The 2nd Amendment”

Democrat President-elect Joe Biden is looking to “defeat” the National Rifle Association (NRA), a civil rights group dedicated to protecting the Second Amendment rights.

“As President, I pledge to continue to work together with Congresswoman Giffords, and with survivors, families, and advocates across the country, to defeat the NRA and end the epidemic of gun violence in America,” Biden said in the statement late last week.

Biden spoke during the 10th anniversary of a shooting in Tucson, Arizona where former congresswoman, Gabby Giffords was wounded and six others were killed.

The NRA responded to Biden’s remark, noting how the Democratic president-elect wants to get rid of the pro-gun rights group which it said is the “only thing that stands between” the abolition of the Constitutionally-protected Second Amendment.

“On Friday, Biden pledged to DEFEAT THE NRA,” the NRA wrote on Twitter.

“Biden wants to ban our semi-auto rifles, tax our guns/mags & more. He knows the only thing standing in his way to DISMANTLE THE 2ND AMENDMENT is NRA. Gun owners must stay vigilant & be engaged in elections and the legislative process.”

Mark Overstreet, the NRA research coordinator,  has earlier reported that between 1986 to 2007, at least 1.63 million AR-15 semi-automatic rifles were produced and not exported from the US.

The Democratic President-elect has insisted in the past that he won’t take away guns although he earlier publicly called for banning semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines. He also suggested taxing owners of semi-automatic guns even for those rifles they already own.

His comments against the NRA came as tensions escalated over a Capitol Hill breach last week as Congress was certifying election results.

At the height of the chaos in Washington D.C. Biden also said the “priority” of his upcoming economic business relief once he assumes office would be made in part based on race and gender — an announcement widely deemed to be racist and sexist.

Last year, the former VP said the Second Amendment does not say American’s are “entitled” to own a gun.

Meanwhile, despite all the controversy surrounding the issue of gun control, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in 2013 that almost every major study on the issue has found that Americans use their firearms in self-defense around 500,000 and 3 million times a year.
