Oklahoma Governor Signed Legislation To Rename Highway After Former President Trump
Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma signed legislation renaming a length of roadway after former President Donald Trump.
On Friday, the Republican governor signed an omnibus bridge and highway naming law, renaming a 20-mile section of roadway from Boise City, Oklahoma, to the state’s border with Texas as the President Donald J. Trump Highway.
According to the Oklahoman, the idea met a hurdle when Democratic lawmakers pointed out that, in most situations, a person must be deceased for at least three years before a road or bridge can be named in their honor.
The three-year waiting requirement was overturned by Republicans, enabling the roadway to be named after Trump. The legislation’s supporters want to foot the money for the new signs that will be placed along the roadway.

In 2019, republican leaders tried to name a highway after Trump, but the idea fell through due to issues over designating a highway after a president who was still in office.
Oklahoma isn’t the only state that has renamed infrastructure in honor of the 45th president. In April, Republicans in the Ohio House proposed renaming Mosquito Lake State Park Donald J. Trump State Park.
The New York State Legislature, on the other hand, is going in a different direction. Democrats have begun a campaign to rename Donald J. Trump State Park. After plans for a golf course on the property were abandoned, the park was transferred to the state of New York in 2006.
“Our parklands should be reflective of New Yorkers that we can be proud of, New Yorkers that have expressed our values. There are a lot of other New Yorkers who are worthy of the honor of having a park named after themselves.” Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, a Democratic sponsor of the bill, of the plan.
