OPINION: Dennis Prager Is Right, The Lockdown Is “The Greatest Mistake In The History Of Humanity”

The government’s terrible response to the coronavirus pandemic can be described as nothing less than a major miscalculation. To quote PragerU founder Dennis Prager, “The lockdown is the greatest mistake in the history of humanity.”

This mistake was caused by, at least in part, the unprecedented decision of elected officials to allow unelected doctors and health “experts” to advocate for extreme and unnecessary public health measures, such as wide-scale lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, which were based on widely inaccurate computer models.

The truth about COVID-19

Initial models, which turned out to be grossly inaccurate, predicted that the Wuhan coronavirus could be ten to twenty times more deadly than the seasonal flu, and could wipe out two to three percent of the United States population.  Considering the U.S. has over 300 million people, these models predicted that millions of Americans would die from COVID-19 in several months.

However, data that has become available in recent weeks shows that the coronavirus likely has greater than a 99% survival rate, with many infected people never showing any symptoms.  Hospitalizations and fatalities seem to only occur for two groups of people: those who already suffer from serious underlying health conditions and the elderly.  Some doctors have argued that with our new understanding of the COVID-19 virus, there is no longer any justification to keep the country shut down.

Why was the country shut down?

It seems that there was never enough data to support the doomsday scenarios that have been pushed by the mainstream media, which resulted in keeping states in lockdowns for months on end.  Around the beginning of March, computer models predicted that 2 million Americans would die from COVID-19.  Then within only a few weeks, and without much coverage by the media, these models were quickly readjusted to predict a death toll of only 100,000 – 200,000.  That’s a 90-95% reduction in the number of predicted deaths.  Yet the tyrannical lockdown policies that were inspired by the initial 2 million number did not ease up.

Typically, when it comes to dealing with the spread of infectious diseases, only infected individuals are subjected to quarantine measures, while all others are free to go about their lives with minimal necessary precautions.  However, with COVID-19, the American public was told that this proven method of dealing with pandemics was not good enough, and now everyone needed to stay inside in order to avoid overcrowding our hospitals and destroying the nation’s healthcare system.

Fast forward to the beginning of May and only a few hospitals in the country were ever actually busy with coronavirus patients.  A majority of U.S. hospitals have been nearly empty over the past few months and have even been forced to lay off doctors and nurses in order to avoid going out of business due to a lack of patients.  Even as it has become obvious that the healthcare system can handle more potential COVID-19 patients, all but a few states have remained on a full-force lockdown.

The media has attempted to justify never-ending lockdowns as “the new normal” and is telling people that their old lives and personal freedoms are not going to be able to return until a coronavirus vaccine becomes available.

All this over a virus with a greater than 99% survival rate.
