Oxford Prosecutor Releases Alleged Michigan School Shooter’s Drawings In Case Against Parents

Unsettling artwork purportedly drawn by school shooting suspect Ethan Crumbley on the day of the alleged attack at Oxford High School was released by the office of Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald on Monday.

One of the images, provided as an exhibit in a court filing on Thursday in a criminal prosecution against Crumbley’s parents, seems to depict the drawings of a pistol and bullet on a mathematics worksheet.

Under the gun, “the thoughts won’t stop” and “help me” are written. Above the bullet, “blood everywhere” is written and various phrases including “my life is useless” are also on the paper.

Another image shows the same piece of paper but the drawings and the majority of the phrases are crossed out. Phrases like “Were all friends here”, “I love my life so much!!!!” and “Video game this is”, are written.

Authorities claim that Crumbley made those adjustments “after the drawing was discovered.”

Prosecutors with McDonald’s office said that the drawings were one of the numerous indicators that Crumbley was in distress – clues that included text messages to his mother. Prosecutors said Ethan was “sending his mother disturbing texts about his state of mind,” and claimed his parents “were made aware, in graphic form, of the serious risk posed by their son prior to the shooting.”

According to prosecutors, Ethan Crumbley also stored the head of a newborn bird in a jar in his room and even carried the object to school and placed it in a restroom. On the morning of the shooting, allegedly, Crumbley was “seen watching violent video of shootings.”

A criminal complaint against Crumbley’s parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, has been issued by McDonald’s office. The complaint accuses the couple of being extremely negligent in failing to notice clear signals that their son was mentally unwell and then buying a pistol for him just days before the incident.

The court filing says, “Despite having all this knowledge, Defendants failed to take even the simplest action that would have prevented the massacre.  All they had to do was tell the school that they recently purchased a gun for their son, ask him where the gun was, open his backpack, or just take him home.”

The Crumbleys, according to the prosecutors, were busy with “extra-marital affairs, financial issues, and substance abuse issues.” According to the lawsuit, Jennifer Crumbley was having an extramarital affair with an unidentified male around the time of the shooting.

Detroit News reported the Crumbley parents’ hearing is on January 7th.
