19-year-old Parkland shooting survivor Sydney Aiello has committed suicide.
Sydney’s mother said that her daughter suffered from survivor’s guilt and struggled with PTSD, which was caused by the grief from losing 17 of her classmates.
Sydney reportedly never asked for any help and struggled to attend her classes due to her fear of being in a classroom following the Parkland school shooting.
Sydney was a close friend of Meadow Pollack, who died during the shooting. Meadow’s father, Andrew, is one of the most outspoken Parkland parents. Andrew Pollack delivered a speech at the White House in which he argued that politicians need to focus on “school safety,” not gun laws.
Ryan Petty, the father of slain Parkland victim Alaina Petty, worries that more Parkland shooting survivors will take their own lives.
