Lofton is a member of both Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) and Turning Point USA, which are conservative on-campus student organizations.

Lofton was doxxed the week before by a Twitter account with the handle @yalexposed. Lofton said that before he was doxxed, he saw signs around campus that said that Young Americans for Liberty is a ‘racist and misogynistic’ student organization.

The arson took place on March 23 at 12:20 a.m., while Lofton was out. However, Lofton’s roommate Jackson Arnold was in the room at the time of the fire. Luckily, Arnold was able to put out the fire before anyone was injured or killed.

If convicted, the three suspects could face up to 20 years in prison.
