Report: Gas Prices Near $6 Per Gallon In Los Angeles, California
On Memorial Day weekend, a gas station in Los Angeles sold fuel for over $6 per gallon, as gas prices continued to skyrocket around the country.
On Monday evening, the Mobil station across the Beverly Center shopping mall, between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, was reportedly selling regular unleaded gasoline for $5.29 and 9/10 per gallon and “Super Plus” for $5.99 and 9/10 per gallon – self-serve, without any assistance or a car wash.
According to GasBuddy.com — a Boston tech company that operates apps and websites based on finding real-time fuel prices at more than 140,000 gas stations in the United States, Canada, and Australia — the said fuel prices mentioned were “unusually high” even for nearby Los Angeles, where many stations put a tag of between $4 and $5 per gallon over the holiday long weekend. In LA, it said that the average gas price is currently at about $4.22 per gallon.

It said there are still stations selling fuel for less than $4 a gallon in sections of the Los Angeles metropolitan region. However, because of the strong demand, supply shocks, state taxes, and increased market speculation about reduced future supply in fuel, some stations are selling fuel at a rate approaching the $6 per gallon level.
“The Biden administration has tried to soothe public anger over gas prices, claiming — incorrectly — last week that Americans are paying less for gas today than the average for the past 15 years,” Breitbart News said separately.
In contrast, it noted that among the first executive actions of Democratic President Joe Biden’s in office were to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline and suspend new oil and gas activity on federal lands, signaling that the country was abandoning the strategy of energy independence that was achieved under the former administration of President Donald Trump.
American gas prices ballooned by 18% and oil nearly 50% since the 2020 Presidential Election. Experts predict that gas prices will eventually go back to $4 a gallon, prices similar to the Obama era all-time-highs.
Meanwhile, although the recent hacking of the Colonial Pipeline had no direct impact on California, it did raise concerns about supply shortages across the country causing panic buying in several states that were affected.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has also declared that the state would phase out gas-powered automobiles (and thus, gas stations) in favor of electric cars, with gas-powered vehicles being prohibited from being sold by 2045.
California Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday directed his administration to take steps to phase out oil and gas drilling in one of the nation’s top oil-producing states by 2045 and to ban new fracking permits within three years.https://t.co/iOUMQkLCYH pic.twitter.com/udPRGphoN2

Former President Trump earlier unloaded on the Joe Biden administration’s overall energy policies which had the US returning to reliance on Russia and the Middle East — after years of energy independence under his administration.
“One of my proudest accomplishments as president was to make America energy independent. The United States became the number one energy superpower. Became number one, bigger than Saudi Arabia, bigger than Russia by a lot. We left them all in the dust. But if the Democrats have their way, we are heading from energy dominance to energy disaster. That’s what’s happening,” the Republican chief executive said in his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

“But now it’s going the opposite because now they’re taking this incredible energy independence away from the people of our country. And you’re going to see costs go like you have never seen them go before. It’s a very sad and very stupid thing that they’re doing,” he added, noting that Biden policies are a “massive win” for other oil producing countries and a loss for the United States.
