Report: Hillary Clinton Under Consideration For UN Ambassador Role Under Biden Admin

Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is reportedly being eyed for the UN Ambassador position in the Biden-Harris administration.

Citing a person familiar with the matter, The Washington Post reported that Clinton’s name is “being discussed” for the role to help put back America’s standing in the world stage after President Donald Trump’s “America First” focus.

News of Clinton being the potential pick for ambassador to the United Nations came as Biden signaled to world leaders that “America is back” after receiving early congratulatory messages from foreign leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, among others.

“I’m letting them know that America is back. We’re going to be back in the game. It’s not Americans alone,” Biden, who has been proclaimed the president-elect by major news networks said on Tuesday.

“I said when we announced that the next president is going to inherit a divided country, and the world in disarray and the reception and welcome we’ve gotten around the world from our allies, from our friends have been real … so I feel confident that we will be able to put America back in the place of respect that it had before,” he added.

Biden to rejoin Paris accord, WHO

As part of Biden’s foreign policy plan, he earlier announced that he would undo President Trump’s foreign policy actions over the past four years and would now commit to rejoin the Paris Agreement and membership to the World Health Organization (WHO) — that the incumbent Republican president abandoned citing “all cost but no benefit” for the United States.

After all, the US has spent more than any other country for the Green Climate Fund and was placed under onerous energy restrictions which President Trump said could cost the economy as much as 2.7 million lost jobs by 2025.

Major carbon emitters — China and India — however, have yet to put forward any cash into the fund that time since it is voluntary.

President Trump also chose to withdraw from the WHO for failing to report accurate information from China during the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak which he said, would have sounded the alarm for the whole world on the extent of the deadly pandemic.

The US is the biggest donor to the WHO providing US$400 million and US$500 million annually to the organization.

Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy record

Meanwhile, Clinton, who’s being eyed for the UN Ambassador role to take over the role currently held by Ambassador Kelly Craft has had her fair share of criticisms regarding her foreign policy record.

Clinton, who also famously lost to President Trump in 2016, testified before Congress over her role in the 2011 attacks on a US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. She has also reiterated that Russia colluding with the Trump campaign contributed to her loss in 2016. She also supported the Obama administration’s Iran nuclear deal.

Most recently, she was caught on hot water after National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe declassified information showing that the Obama administration knew of allegations that Clinton was attempting to tie the Trump campaign to Russia in a bid to distract the public from her email scandal that hit the headlines before the election in 2016.
