Senate GOP Campaign Chairman Proposes Using 25th Amendment To Deprive Biden Of Power
Senator Rick Scott (Florida) floated the notion of removing President Joe Biden from office following the unfolding fiasco in Afghanistan after its capital Kabul, recently fell into the hands of the Talibans as US forces pulled out of the country.
The Republican senator also enumerated the current challenges that the US is facing under Biden — barely seven months since he took office on January 20.
“Inflation is raging. The debt ceiling expired & US debt is headed to $45 TRILLION. Kabul is falling to the Taliban & encounters in the #BidenBorderCrisis just hit a 20 YEAR HIGH,” the senator from Florida said.
“Democrats control the House, Senate & @WhiteHouse. What in the world is Joe Biden doing?” he added.
On Monday, as tensions in Afghanistan continue to rise and civilians desperately try to flee the country, the senator quoted his earlier tweet — and this time, called for the removal of Biden using the 25th Amendment.
“After the disastrous events in Afghanistan, we must confront a serious question: Is Joe Biden capable of discharging the duties of his office or has time come to exercise the provisions of the 25th Amendment?”

The 25th Amendment notes the presidential disability and succession passed in 1965 — which has historically been used in cases of medical emergencies.
The provision allows the US president to be stripped of authority and power if the vice president and a majority of cabinet members tell Congress that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
The Taliban staged a military blitz throughout Afghanistan over the weekend, seizing major cities, military sites, and finally the capital of Kabul in only a few days.
A chaotic evacuation ensued after as the military managed the rescue of US troops, diplomats, American citizens, and Afghan refugees from Karzai International Airport.
Amid mounting backlash from both Democrats and Republicans, Biden was forced to cut short his retreat at Camp David in Maryland to deliver an address to the nation over the Afghanistan fiasco — where thousands of American servicemen were killed and trillions of taxpayers money were used to fund America’s longest war.
In his 20-minute speech, however, Biden blamed US-trained Afghan forces for not pushing back against the Taliban takeover, while at the same time pointing finger at the administration of former President Donald Trump that he claimed had “forced” his decision to pull out American troops in Afghanistan.
“When I came into office, I inherited a deal that President Trump negotiated with the Taliban. Under his agreement, US forces would be out of Afghanistan by May 1, 2021 – just a little over three months after I took office,” Biden said in his speech.
“The choice I had to make as your president was to either follow through on that agreement, or be prepared to go back to fighting the Taliban in the middle of the spring fighting season,” he added, noting that “there was no status quo of stability without American casualties after May 1.”
“There was only the cold reality of either following through on the agreement to withdraw our forces, or escalating the conflict and sending thousands more American troops back into combat in Afghanistan, lurching into the third decade of conflict,” the Democrat president added, while noting that “this did unfold more quickly than we anticipated.”
“So what’s happened? Afghanistan political leaders gave up and fled the country. The Afghan military collapsed, some without trying to fight. If anything, the developments of the past week reinforce that ending US military involvement in Afghanistan now was the right decision,” he went on.
“American troops cannot and should not be fighting in a war, and dying in a war, that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves.”
Not the first time
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the idea of using the 25th Amendment to strip Biden of power was raised.
In late July, former White House physician Ronny Jackson — who is now serving as Texas 13th district representative — raised the alarm anew on Biden’s health, saying that he believes that the 78-year old Democratic chief executive will be forced to resign or face the 25th Amendment over persisting concerns over his fitness to hold office.
Something's SERIOUSLY wrong with Biden – and it's only going to get WORSE! It's past the point of embarrassment. He's lost. He's confused. He can barely put a coherent sentence together. He MUST have a cognitive exam and release the results! pic.twitter.com/Pk5Pq2V5Um

Jackson had earlier been calling on Biden to take a cognitive test to assess his mental acumen as president.
