‘Squad’ Member Cori Bush, A ‘Defund The Police’ Advocate, Recently Spent $70,000 On Private Security

Progressive Rep. Cori Bush (Missouri) reportedly spent almost $70,000 on her private security over the past three months, ironically, despite her support for defunding the police.

Campaign filings show that Bush — a member of the “expanded Squad” — sent $54,120.92 in payments between April 15 and June 28 for “security services” to RS&T Security Consulting, a New York-based firm with a mysterious online presence, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records released Thursday.

Her campaign also settled $15,000 to Nathaniel Davis again, for “security services” over the same time frame indicated.

Reports noted that the $69,120 Bush made on security payments accounts for “more than a third” of her $197,000 campaign expenditures during the second quarter.

It was also “nearly double” the private security expenses that her campaign spent on during the first quarter of 2021.

“RS&T’s website is no longer active, but a cached version of its now-defunct website shows that the group provides ‘executive protection agents’ that provide first class executive protection and security for national and international figures,” Fox News said, adding that  Nathaniel Davis’ reported address in the filings used is the same as the campaign headquarters of Bush.

While Bush’s campaign spent tens of thousands of dollars on private security, a luxury most Americans cannot afford, the Missouri Democrat was both a harsh critic of law enforcement and one of the most vocal proponents of defunding the police.

Bush has earlier said that defunding the police is not a “radical” idea.

In that same month that she spent thousands for her private security, the Democratic lawmaker also praised St. Louis for its “historic” vote to defund the police in April.

“Today’s decision to defund the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is historic,” Bush said at that time.

“It marks a new future for our city. For decades, our city funneled more and more money into our police department under the guise of public safety, while massively underinvesting in the resources that will truly keep our communities safe,” she added.

Not the first time that Bush spent thousands on security

The recent report is not the first time that member of the progressive Democratic group dished thousands on security.

She also spent somewhere over $30,000 on security purposes all on her own during the first three months of the year —  the payments going to RS&T, Davis and Maryland-based firm, Whole Armor Executive Protection.

Bush has also earmarked taxpayer’s cash toward security detail. In June, the Daily Caller reported that the lawmaker’s office spent $880 on a day of protection with RS&T as the firm was collecting checks from her campaign.

Aside from spending for security in her home state over the period, the freshman lawmaker, who has also pushed to defund the police, reportedly spent bulk of the reported costs for her own security in New York City and Washington D.C.

Meanwhile, other “Squad” members — who also called for  defunding the police — including radical-left, female lawmakers — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York), Ilhan Omar (Minnesota), Rashida T’laib (Michigan) and Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts) — also spent campaign funds for private security.

During the second quarter, Ocasio-Cortez spent over $4,000 for private security; Omar spent $2,800 and Pressley also spent $3,500 for protection, according to FEC records.
