Texas Border Mayor Begs Biden To Stop Releasing Illegal Immigrants Into His City

The mayor of Del Rio, Texas along the Mexico border is pleading to Democratic President Joe Biden to help his struggling town amid the ongoing winter storm, the reeling impact of the coronavirus pandemic — and recently, the influx of illegal immigrants allowed to cross the border under more relaxed border measures of the current administration.

“I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates, into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas,” Mayor Bruno Lozano of Del Rio, Texas said in a video for the President.

“We do not have the resources available to house and accommodate these migrants within our communities,” he added.

He added that the ongoing winter storm will also make it difficult for the city to provide resources to its residents — and accommodating immigrants entering through the US-Mexico border.

Del Rio is home to 50,000 residents, but as the Biden administration relaxed restrictions at the southern border due to coronavirus restrictions an influx of undocumented migrants from Central and South America are being released by Border Patrol into communities within the border making it harder for these small towns to keep up.

“I will have no choice but to use extreme measures under the emergency declaration as the mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas to refuse the entry of migrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio,” Mayor Lozano warned Biden.

“If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources under these dire circumstances,” he added, as images of Texans queuing in empty grocery stores are shown on the screen.

“Please make another plan for this Federal issue,” the Del Rio mayor further said.

He went on to address Biden saying that if the Democratic president does not reverse its policies on releasing these illegal immigrants from border facilities   then the Federal government should be the one to provide for their needs.

“If you’re going to allow these individuals into our communities, I respectfully ask that you provide the means and the supplies necessary to accommodate them safely under these extreme circumstances – due to the crisis, we cannot provide these supplies,” Lozano said, adding that the town is also in dire need of water, and “an equal distribution of power” throughout the city.

The mayor said the administration’s move to “release the migrant population without any COVID-19 protocols” is also “undermining” the administration’s own commitment to stopping the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

“I cannot mix the migrant population with Del Rio residents that are extremely vulnerable and have been displaced due to the extreme weather,” he said. “We may be a small town that is off of your radar, but we are a community of 50,000 people who need your attention.”

Republican lawmakers earlier warned Biden of a brewing ‘crisis’ of illegal immigration at the border after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have reportedly seen the average daily flow of migrants surge to more than 3,500 a day from 2,000 last month over the Democratic President’s immigration policies.

The number of unaccompanied alien children is approaching 300 a day, according to reports.
