The Private Jet Of John Kerry, Biden’s Climate Czar, Data From Flight Records Raise Eyebrows

John Kerry, the climate czar of President Joe Biden, and his family have reportedly taken over a dozen flights using a private jet so far this year, according to Fox News, citing data from American flight data provider, Flight Aware.

The private jet owned by the former Secretary of State — who is now Biden’s Special Presidential Envoy for Climate — took 16 flights since January, raising eyebrows from critics questioning the irony of pushing to lower greenhouse gas emissions, while also contributing to the problem.

Many of these flights took place in Massachusetts, with Martha’s Vineyard and Boston International Airport reported among them. There were also at least two flights between Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Kerry has earlier defended his high-pollution ride when he was criticized for also taking a private jet to Iceland in 2019 to receive the Arctic Circle award for  climate leadership.

Kerry also mentioned that he offsets his emissions, although it is unclear how.

If you offset your carbon it’s the only choice for somebody like me who is traveling the world to win this battle,” Kerry told the Icelandic press at that time.

Meanwhile, according to flight logs, his family’s private plane spent more than 20 hours in the air between February and January of last year, resulting in an estimated  116 metric tons of carbon emissions.

The average passenger vehicle emits roughly 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, according to a March 2018 analysis from the Environmental Protection Agency

That figure was based on a car that travels approximately 11,500 miles per year and gets around 22.0 miles per gallon of gas.

Based on Kerry’s most recent financial disclosure, Fox News noted that the said private plane was valued at more than $1 million.

Last March, Biden’s climate envoy urged the world’s top polluters — including China and India — to cut emissions now.
