Trump Calls Out Mitt Romney By Name, Says He Feels “Sorry” For Utah (VIDEO)
In a televised speech at the National Prayer Breakfast following President Trump’s Senate acquittal, President Trump ripped into Mitt Romney’s use of faith as a scapegoat for his betrayal.
President Trump thanked Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee for his loyalty while roasting Mitt Romney and hinting at Romney’s likely re-election loss. “Say hello to the people of Utah and tell them I’m sorry about Mitt Romney. I’m sorry.”
President Trump scolded Nancy Pelosi and Mitt Romney for using their religion as a cover-up for their anti-American actions. “I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say ‘I pray for you’ when they know that that’s not so. So many people have been hurt and we can’t let that go on.”
Fox News host Laura Ingraham also rebuked Senator Romney for his speech in which Romney invoked his faith in order to justify his decision to vote to remove Trump from office.
“[Pelosi] wasn’t the only person acting out, Utah’s junior senator reminded us of why he couldn’t connect with most regular working-class people,” said Ingraham “They don’t like politicians who claim to be holier than thou when they’re really just sticking a shiv in your back.”
Ingraham continued, “He’s the ultimate selfish, preening, self-centered politician.”
In an interview with Chris Wallace, Romney doubled down on his stance and told Wallace that he was just trying to apply “impartial justice.”
“I believe that the act he took, an effort to corrupt an election, is as destructive an attack on the oath of office and our Constitution as I can imagine,” said Romney. “It is a high crime and misdemeanor within the meaning of the Constitution, and that is not a decision I take lightly. It is the last decision I want to take. The personal consequences, the political consequences that fall on me as a result of that are going to be extraordinary. But I swore an oath before God, and I’m a religious person, that I would apply impartial justice.”
