Trump Lauds ‘Unrivaled Heroes’ Who Sacrificed Lives In US military — Biden Pushes Diversity; Says ‘Democracy Is Under Attack’
Former President Donald Trump lauded the United States’ fallen military members as “unrivaled heroes” with “immortal” legacies in a statement commemorating Memorial Day.
“On this Memorial Day, we remember the fallen heroes who took their last breaths in defense of our Nation, our families, our citizens, and our sacred freedoms,” the former Republican chief executive said. “The depth of their devotion, the steel of their resolve, and the purity of their patriotism has no equal in human history.”

“It is because of their gallantry that we can together, as one people, continue our pursuit of America’s glorious destiny,” Trump added.
According to the Congressional Research Service (CRS), more than 1 million American military service members have died in the United States’ history, dating back to the Revolutionary War, with the most deadly conflicts being the Civil War and World War II, each of which claimed the lives of more than 400,000 American soldiers for each of the conflict.
The CRS also said the country’s most recent war, referred to as “Global War on Terror,” has killed more than 6,900 American service men.
“We owe all that we are, and everything we ever hope to be, to these unrivaled heroes. Their memory and their legacy is immortal. Our loyalty to them and to their families is eternal and everlasting,” Trump said on Monday.
“America’s warriors are the single greatest force for justice, peace, liberty, and security among all the nations ever to exist on earth. God bless our fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, Airmen, and Marines,” he added.
Biden’s speech pushes diversity; claims democracy in peril
Meanwhile, separately, President Joe Biden’s Memorial Day speech reportedly centered on claims that American democracy is in peril — while noting that “democracy” is the “soul of America,” and that diversity has always been an “incredible strength” when it comes to the military.
“You know, America has been forged in the battle and the fires of war. Our freedom and the freedom of innumerable others has been secured by young men and women who answered the call of history and gave everything in the service of an idea: the idea of America,” Biden said as he spoke at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia for the 153rd National Memorial Day Observance.
Biden went on to say that “democracy must be defended at all costs.”

“Democracy — that’s the soul of America, and I believe it’s a soul worth fighting for, and so do you; a soul worth dying for. Heroes who lie in eternal peace in this beautiful place, this sacred place, they believed that too,” he said.
The Democratic president then went on to claim in his remark that “The Americans of Lexington and Concord, of New Orleans, Gettysburg, the Argonne, Iwo Jima and Normandy, Korea and Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, and thousands of places in between weren’t fighting for dictators,” but were “fighting for democracy.”
“They weren’t fighting to exclude or to enslave; they were fighting to build and broaden and liberate. They weren’t fighting for self; they were fighting for the soul of the nation,” Biden added.
The Daily Wire noted in its report that in his speech, “Biden shifted to use the sacrifice of American service men and women as a political platform, and presented democracy as ‘more than a form of government.’”
“[Democracy is] a way of being; it’s a way of seeing the world,” Biden said.
After repeatedly emphasizing the current “struggle for the soul of America,” Biden made comments about the mostly-left leaning mainstream media and the country’s electoral system.
“Folks, you all know it: Democracy thrives when the infrastructure of democracy is strong; when people have the right to vote freely and fairly and conveniently; when a free and independent press pursues the truth, founded on facts, not propaganda; when the rule of law applies equally and fairly to every citizen, regardless of where they come from or what they look like,” he claimed.
Biden then concluded his speech by pushing for “empathy” to “fuel” democracy — as he noted “diversity” in the military.
“Americans of all backgrounds, races, creeds, gender identities, sexual orientations, have long spilled their blood to defend our democracy,” he said, adding that “diversity of our country and our armed services is and always has been an incredible strength.”
Harris blasted for ‘disrespectful’ tweet
Earlier, Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, came under fire for tweeting about Memorial Day long weekend, without a mention of the importance of the holiday.
“Enjoy the long weekend,” the Democratic VP wrote above a candid photo of herself grinning.

Social media users slammed Harris’ lack of tact — while reminding her of the sacrifices that the “long weekend” is meant to honor and commemorate.
Real misfire here. It is a long weekend. It’s also Memorial Day weekend, which means far more that our government officials should acknowledge: a time to remember and honor the millions of Americans who lost their lives in our nation’s defense https://t.co/RCPwPf4TdL https://t.co/xKyyaOkkQA

I know you think the "long weekend" is a chance to post a pic of yourself and get some mimosas as you plan to rip our country apart but it’s actually a time to appreciate the brave soldiers who died for our country & to reflect on the LIFETIME their families spend without them.

Memorial Day is celebrated every last Monday of May annually to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.
It is Memorial Day weekend – nor for enjoying – but for memorializing our fallen. Our brothers and sisters, who 'gave the last full measure of devotion'.
Please try to respect that. pic.twitter.com/pf2dDxG7sx
