Trump Supporters Don’t Support “Law and Order,” CNN’s Anderson Cooper Claims

During a roundtable on former President Trump’s 2nd impeachment trial, CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper stated that Trump supporters could no longer claim that they believe in law and order. He also maintained that Trump was not a “law and order president.”

The roundtable took place after CNN anchors watched an edited video compilation that allegedly shows the timeline of how Trump’s rally contributed to the Capitol riots on January 6th, 2021. The video was presented by House impeachment managers led by Congressman Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

A critical portion of Trump’s rally speech, which explicitly called for supporters to “peacefully and patriotically make their voices heard,” was purposefully omitted from the video compilation.

Cooper said, “Any watching of the video that was played just today in the Senate Chambers, after watching that, the president’s supporters who were attacking the Capitol, the former president of the United States cannot claim to be a law-and-order president when you have the crowds chanting “kill the blue.” We saw them hurling insults and fists and objects and the American flag and hockey stick at officers. As you said, gouging out an eye, an officer lost three fingers, and one officer was killed. Two others have died by suicide. Any claim by them that they are lovers of law and order, it rings hollow, certainly after seeing that.”

During an interview with Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Cooper suggested that issuing subpoenas to Capitol police officers to “described what they endured” during the “insurrection” might persuade some Republican Senators to vote to convict Trump. Cooper also claimed that “aides to the former president said that [Trump] was enjoying the spectacle of the riot.”
