A U.S. appeals court has ruled that flipping off a cop is your First Amendment right.
This decision came after a woman filed a lawsuit against a police officer for giving her a speeding ticket after she gave the officer a middle finger salute.
Debra Cruise-Gulyas was pulled over for speeding in Taylor, Michigan. Officer Matthew Minard then wrote Cruise-Gulyas a ticket for a lesser non-moving violation instead of a ticket for speeding.
As Cruise-Gulyas drove away from the stop, she flipped off Officer Minard. Officer Minard then pulled Cruise-Gulyas over again and changed the ticket to a speeding ticket.
The U.S. appeals court ruled that it was unconstitutional for Officer Minard to pull Cruise-Gulyas over again after she gave him the middle finger because flipping off a police officer is protected by the First Amendment.
