U.S. Capitol Police Suggest Razor Wire Fence Remain In Place Until Fall: Report

U.S. Capitol Police officials recommend the razor-wire topped fencing around the Capitol should stay in place for several months because law enforcement continues to track threats against lawmakers.

According to a source who told The Associated Press, police officials suggest the fence should remain in place until Septembers because of ‘continued threats against lawmakers and the Capitol complex’

“The threats range in specificity and credibility, but they include online chatter about extremist groups potentially returning to Washington and to the Capitol in the coming weeks, the person told AP.”

Police officials said the fence is needed to prevent a possibility of another Jan. 6 insurrection and the person who told AP is not authorized to discuss the situation publicly.

There have been more than 40 Republicans who signed a latter two weeks ago calling for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to take down the fence and gather the thousands of National Guard troops who were sent to the Capitol to now go home.

Photos shared by Jack Posobiec shared, “DC residents have begun putting up signs around the Biden Wall around Capitol Hill ‘Give Back Out City!”

A bipartisan letter organized by Demand Progress and the Lincoln Network wrote, “The U.S. Capitol must be secure and it must be open to the public. We oppose permanent fences around the U.S. Capitol because their presence is inimical to open government and they are merely security theater when the real security failures arose from mismanagement and a lack of preparation from the Capitol Police leadership and the Capitol Police Board.”

Meghan McCain was criticized for her comment, “Now that impeachment is done can DC stop having barbed wire fences and Humvees around the capitol like this is a military based in Baghdad?”
