United Airlines is now offering a “non-binary” gender booking option for flights.

The new non-binary gender option is listed as “Mx.” (not sure what that’s supposed to stand for) on United’s website.

United’s Chief Customer Officer, Toby Enqvist, released the following statement:

United is excited to share with our customers, whether they identify along the binary of male or female or not, that we are taking the steps to exhibit our care for them while also providing additional employee training to make us even more welcoming for all customers and employees.

United has worked with LGBT groups to train its employees on the use of “preferred pronouns.”

United is the first U.S. airline to offer non-binary gender booking options. Spokespeople for American, Delta, Southwest, and Alaska Airlines all said that they plan to offer non-binary booking options in the future.
