(WATCH) Biden Calls VP ‘President Harris’ And Forgets George Floyd’s Name (VIDEO)

President Biden spoke at the South Carolina State Campus commencement ceremony on Friday, where he made a multitude of awkward speaking moments addressing students from the historically Black university.

At various points during the speech, the president made the mistake of referring to Vice President Harris as “President Harris” and spoke of the “George Family Justice Act Policing Act.”

“On police reform, I share the frustration,” Biden said at one point. “And I know the family well – the George Family Justice Act and Policing Act – I know the family well,” Biden continued, misinterpreting the name of the Democrats’ George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Biden also spoke enthusiastically about historically black colleges and universities, saying, “Of course, President Harris is a proud Howard [University] alum.”

During a portion of his speech, the president called for passage of a comprehensive election and campaign finance reform package that cleared the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives on a party-line vote earlier this year. Republicans, on the other hand, are adamantly opposed to the legislation, which is currently stuck in a Senate split 50-50 between the two major parties. Conservatives decry the bill as a federal power grab and a takeover of the states’ long-standing capacity to regulate their elections.

Speaking on his early troubles in the presidential primaries, Biden said he was always certain that he would prevail in South Carolina because of the state’s significant African American voting population.

Biden told the audience, “I, uh, I got what we call in my old neighborhood in Claymont, Delaware — I got ‘shellacked.’ I kept saying, I’m waiting to go to South Carolina.”

He added, “Because I come from a state that has the eighth-largest African American population and that’s the source of all my support in Delaware. For real.”

During his visit to South Carolina, Biden also highlighted his efforts to “protect the sacred right to vote” and paid tribute to his longtime friend and ally House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn.
