(WATCH) Body Camera Footage Shows Crazy Standoff Between Armed Man And Police Officer (VIDEO)

Following a tense confrontation in which an officer discharged his pistol at an armed man, authorities have released body camera footage from the incident.

According to investigators, it all began when Oklahoma City Officer Andrew Ash came to the Alora Apartments, located along N.W. 63rd, in response to a reported disturbance.

When he arrived, he encountered Antwon Hill, a 40-year-old man in a breezeway.

Bodycam footage shows Hill reaching for something in his coat pocket. Moments later, Hill brandishes a handgun.

Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said in a news release, “Shortly thereafter, Mr. Hill reached into his pocket, produced a pistol, and pointed it at Officer Ash.”

The police officer took minutes trying to calm Hill down. Even with Hill pulling his weapon and pointing it at the officer, Ash continued trying to reason with him civilly to put the gun away. Hill told Ash, “I’m gonna shoot! I’m gonna shoot your b***h a**.”

Ash would respond, “Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot.”

Once Hill reached for Ash’s gun and was chasing him down a sidewalk, the officer shot at Hill. Hill was not injured.

Hill proceeded to barricade himself inside an apartment, but he was finally apprehended and put into jail by members of the tactical team.

Hill, 40, was taken into custody on charges of felony pointing of a handgun and possession of a firearm after a previous felony conviction, according to police.

Officer-involved shooting investigators are still looking into the incident, according to the latest reports.

Attorney Gary Jones represents police officers in deadly force cases and he believes Officer Ash could have used his firearm much earlier in the confrontation. James said, “When you watch that video, the first few times I watched that video, you’re thinking, ‘Shoot him, shoot him.”

“As you watch the video, I think the officer would have been justified very early on to use deadly force,” James added. James believes Ash was afraid to use his weapon because of the social repercussions that would come if he used his gun lethally.

“Because, overall, of how society feels about police officers, the anti-police movement and more particularly in this county, police officers being charged in deadly force situations that they believe they have a right to do.”
