WATCH: Chicago Residents Tell BLM Protesters To Leave Their Neighborhood (VIDEO)
Englewood, Chicago residents dispersed a Black Lives Matter rally that was hastily organized without giving notice to residents. Community members argued that the protesters should rally in front of the police department instead of residential areas.
Resident Daryl Smith shouted his frustration at BLM protesters who ignore the area when ‘a kid gets shot’ but will show up when there is an anti-police protest.
Mr. Smith stated, “There are a lot of misconceptions since the shooting of this 20-year-old boy. A lot of people say that the looting downtown sparked from Englewood. We’re not having it. It didn’t spark from Englewood. Those are opportunists. We’re tired of Englewood getting the black eye for any and everything that happens.
He also shared, “Now, today, there’s a protest. A protest was scheduled, where they’re going to come down here. Rumors had it they’re going to bust out the police windows. No matter what they were going to do, they were going to come to Englewood, antagonizing our police. And then when they go back to the north side in Indiana, our police are bitter and they’re beating up our little black boys. So we’re not going to have that.”
Mr. Smith continued, “We have a relationship with the commander. And if anyone wants to come in here and talk to the police about the shooting or anything, they have to go through us. We have a relationship. Are the police good? No, they’re not. But all the police are not bad. And if you have a relationship in your community with the police, we don’t need any outsiders coming to antagonize us.”
Another resident shared, “If you’re going to do something, do it right. And you put other people’s lives at risk when you come into neighborhoods. You don’t know the dynamics.”
Commander Larry Snelling of Chicago Police gave a statement, “The good citizens and the good community members of Englewood stepped up and said, we’re not going to allow more chaos in our neighborhood.”
