(WATCH) Chicago Robbers Steal Jewelry Worth Millions From Luxury Car Dealership; Owner Calls Out City (VIDEO)

A smash-and-grab robbery at the Gold Coast Exotic Motors dealership in Chicago is being investigated by the Chicago Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of North Rush at approximately 12:11 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.

The co-owner of Gold Coast Exotic Motor Cars, Joe Perillo, stated, “We’re here to run a legitimate business, not be a western shootout.”

Shattered glass and empty displays were all the evidence left in the store after the crime that took seconds. In the middle of the day, the thieves were able to snatch watches out of the display cases worth millions of dollars.

“30 seconds and they know, the criminals know,” Perillos said.

Joe Abbas, co-owner of Gold Coast Exotic Motor Cars, said employees chassed after the thieves: “We ran after them on Chestnut, all the way to State Street, and then they split up.”

Security footage shows two men walking into the dealership around noon on Saturday.

One man can be seen standing guard at the door, while the other uses a hammer to bust open the cases on the other side of the room.

The footage cuts off before the men can be seen rushing out of the building with at least seven luxury watches, according to employees.  Multiple staff members chased after the looters.

The co-owner, Joe Abbas, expressed his frustration with trying to apprehend the looters.

“I have little kids. I don’t want to get shot here,” Abbas expressed concern.

The other co-owner, Perillos, slammed the local government’s handling of these kinds of criminals: “If they get arrested, they get let go. So, how do you intend to ever solve that problem?”

As a result of disruptive crowds last week and a spike in thefts from high-end establishments, Chicago Police have increased their presence across the downtown region over the weekend.

However, despite a firm warning from the city’s top officer, shops are dissatisfied, claiming that city leaders must do more to ensure the safety of their establishments and their customers.

According to CPD Superintendent David Brown, “If you come downtown or anywhere else to engage in disorderly conduct or other crimes, you will be arrested.”

Perillos believes the city will see businesses leave town if they can not restore order: “If they don’t do anything about this, they’re going to lose a lot of businesses. They lost Macy’s. They’re losing Neiman Marcus. They may lose this store.”
