Chris Wallace, the now-former host of “Fox News Sunday” will join CNN’s streaming service as an anchor early next year, the network announced on Sunday.

A statement from CNN said that Wallace will host a weekday show that will contain interviews with people active in politics, business, sports, and entertainment.

The controversial news anchor said this on his departure: “I look forward to the new freedom and flexibility streaming affords interviewing major figures across the news landscape — and finding new ways to tell stories.”

CNN Chief Jeff Zucker commended Wallace for his years of service as a journalist and stated that Wallace would be assisting the network in the development of its new streaming service.

“It is not often that a news organization gets the opportunity to bring someone of Chris Wallace’s caliber on board. He is as fine a journalist as there is in our business. This speaks volumes about our commitment to journalism and CNN+, and we are thrilled to have Chris on the ground floor of helping us build the next generation of CNN and news,” Zucker said.

Wallace announced his departure from Fox News early Sunday morning, stating that he wanted to pursue possibilities “beyond politics.”

“I’m ready for a new adventure,” he said during his farewell appearance on “Fox News Sunday” on Sunday. “And I hope you’ll check it out.”

Fox News Media issued a statement saying that the company is “extremely proud of our journalism and the stellar team that Chris Wallace was a part of for 18 years.” Fox News added that the “Fox News Sunda” show will have a list of rotating hosts until a permanent replacement will be chosen.

Chris Wallace is the son of legendary “60 Minutes” correspondent Mike Wallace. He began his broadcast journalism career in 1975 with NBC News and later spent 15 years working for ABC News until joining Fox in 2003.
